some episodes in season 1I know SpongeBob sometimes acted pre-movie in the post-movie era, but were there ever any pre-movie episodes where he acted post-movie?

SpongeBob's personality in season 2 is the perfect combination of the childish spongebob in season 1 and the mature spongebob in season 3I disagree, for me that season is Season 2.

You can tell because it's extremely on model, the red line for SpongeBob's hat is dark and airbrushed (normal animation has solid and faint colored lines), and the FPS is low. All the black lines are also the same thickness.

I disagree, for me that season is Season 2.
i think pizza apple means the atmosphere feels like SpongeBob, not how the episode looksI think almost every episode from season 2-3 look like they're from 2001.
Episode from really bad dot crawl look like late 90s digital animation (Frankendoole, Sailor Mouth and Krusty Love)
The Sponge Who Could Fly and Pranks a Lot look like they're from 2003.

while i disagree, i see where you're coming fromThe season with the most spongebob atmosphere is season 4
Sometimes he acts like his good post-movie self (i.e. Squidward's School for Grown-Ups) in the pre-movie era, but he never acts like his evil post-movie self (i.e. Boating Buddies)In Dying for Pie he acts post movie

I love Squidward's School for Grown-Ups, it's so cute when Patrick tries to be more grown-up and they pull off the dumb post-movie SpongeBob personality very well, he's dumb but loveable. It's an great example of an episode that doesn't have a lot of pre-movie characteristics, but is fun to watch anyway. It shows that the new writing style introduced in the post-movie era with dumber characters can make great episodes. Sometimes I'll chose a Season 8 episode over a Season 3 one because sometimes I just wanna see the dumb post-movie SpongeBob.Patrick ironically acted like his pre-movie self when he had the beard

The late cel seasons of the Simpsons (9-14) are extremely on model:
In terms of the characters I think the most SpongeBob-y looking characters is Season 3 markerbob. I could agree with you on Season 4 in terms of the backgrounds though, due to the bright colors. The season with the most spongebob atmosphere is season 4
