Unfortunately, over 12 years, the rules of using the library music in a cartoon on a regular basis have changed. Arrangements of traditional melodies or shanties started to cost much more than before because of them entering public domain. And JUST USING libraries regularly (not here or there, like on The Simpsons) has become really hard since somewhere around 2009. For a long while, SpongeBob was THE ONLY syndicated cartoon which used library music in its EVERY episode: from 2011 to 2016, up until the Loud House appeared on Nickelodeon (but even with this show, it didn't become much easier).DigDugtrio said:Then there's the new krusty krab tracks.... Oh my...
I know they can't use the Tip Top Polka anymore, but they could throughout all of season 7-9, and only used it about 5 times. Same goes for The Rake Hornpipe, except it's only recently played in season 9. That song is still on APM as well.
It would just be really nice to have a mix of original music and APM music, like how season 4 was.
And that's why the original music composers from SpongeBob make their tunes for Nickelodeon: it's much easier and cheaper than extending the license terms for the library tracks.
So you should thank Nicolas Carr that AT LEAST he's still using the library music and STILL staying on the show despite all that.
The two latter tracks you mentioned I think are still used today because Nicolas Carr still has the rights from the label (Selected Sound) to use their tracks, even though they are removed (he might as well have the actual CD on his hands, Selected Sound is one of the few labels which was releasing their tracks in CD forms).ataeaf said:That bland Nicolas Carr version of Botany Bay. I’d like the see the GOOD version of Botany Bay be used. Considering 9B had Hawaiian Train and the old version of Drunken Sailor, I’m hopeful.
And about Botany Bay... Well, in 2008, Carr managed to arrange Botany Bay AND Drunken Sailor with his friend, Michael Bolger, just for fun...before the sudden rise of prices for the library arrangements I mentioned above. So to save money and keep everybody else's jobs, he is apparently using these arrangements. Yes, it IS easier to compose a track himself rather than extending a license for other company's music.
Also, one of Carr's partners, Barry Anthony, has died recently. This, of course, made things for him and his music crew harder. Plus, Carr's personal music company, Animation Music Inc has dissolved during the show's 2014-2015 hiatus. But he is STILL staying on the show despite all that problems. The man has patience, and I respect him for that.
