Since I post Bert and Ernie things everywhere, I think I should start up a tribute thread to my very favourite Muppets, Bert and Ernie. (Well, Bert's my favourite. :love:) Anyway, here is my very own tribute!

Why is Bert My Favourite Muppet
A Passionate, Loving Essay on Boring Paper-clip and Pigeon-Loving Bert By DiabolicalGenius

Back when I was still trying to work out who I was, I kept coming back to Sesame Street and I never saw Bert and Ernie as singular units or ever really paid much attention to them. That's not to say that I didn't like them, but... I was more into Telly Monster and Oscar the Grouch. I did always like the biplane in a Follow That Bird though, though I never really admitted it was my favourite vehicle. Months later, in a waiting office when I was stuck in my rut, waiting for my teeth to be X-rayed for braces (which I will get very soon *gulp*) I found the Sesame Street Treasury book just lying there for me. It was AMAZING. It was partly written by Jerry Juhl, had recipes for making your own cookies with Cookie Monster, but at the start of the book was a story about Bert taking a bath which I really enjoyed. Then, even more months later, still in the rut (which lasted almost three quarters of a year) I came back to Bert and Ernie Apartment Sketches, and I saw one about a blackout and here I was very very tempted to call Bert my favourite Sesame Street Muppet (I was held down to Fraggle Rock) but I'd messed that up enough times so I moved on. Then months later, Avenue Q came along, and I heard "Fantasies Come True" which is so so sweet and adorable (Rod shares favourite puppet status with Bert) "Nicky, are you awake?" Anyway, this is supposed to be about Bert, so I fell in love with Rod in a few weeks of deciding to go into it, and I fell in love with Bert. It was a hard thing to do but I was so glad I did. I had a few more missteps but I turned my life around and not only that but I got to see amazing things like Elmo in Grouchland and Ernie's Rhyming Song (video above.) Then just a few weeks ago I realized Bert really is my favourite Muppet and this is the forum for me. So why I love Bert-

He's sweet, adorable, boring, a good friend, his passions, his squareness, everything about him, his adorability, how he's so cute when he gets carried away, how he can be so serious and so cute at the same time, how he is basically me- I mean how much I relate to him, how he taught me I'm square, how adorable he is... OK I love him.

This is a great song with poor Bert just trying to get some sleep when Ernie dances and gets the sheep to come and drag Bert outside! Ernie loves Bert though, and cares about him, he just loves teasing him and having fun with him, though if it wasn't for each other they wouldn't be as happy. Ernie needs Bert to keep him tame (Can you imagine the mayhem he'd cause if it wasn't for Bert?) and Bert needs Ernie to talk to and understand his weird passions. One of the things I love most about Bert is how proudly and beautifully he expresses his geeky passions, like paperclips, pigeons, bottlecaps, the number six... "Six! Sometimes I think of six sticks! Or else I think of six bricks! Not five bricks or sticks, but siiiix..." There is nobody more adorkable than Bert. <3

Well it's a lot of fun, and in my opinion it's just as good as SpongeBob- but for me it came first. In almost two months I will have been one whole year with The Muppets! xD
