I never got why. The entire episode focuses on Squidward's inability to be happy. Yet the last line is Spongebob calling him attractive. His appearance was not relevant to the episode at all. Maybe in "2 Faces of Squidward" the line would've made sense, but not here.

Wouldn't a final line like "My work here is done" or "I'm glad Squidward finally found happiness" be more appropriate? Why end it on such a confusing note, with the line delivered with such a weird tone?

Maybe Squidbob is real....

Jk, it's out-of-context dialogue either caused by a failure to edit the script or the writers intentionally leaving it in because they thought it would be funny or whatever.

Yeah, but how is it funny that Spongebob decided to help Squidward out of depression 'cause he thinks he's hot? That's horrifying.

To troll shippers.
Is it trolling if shippers are made happy?

Obviously because he's a sexy stud.
Surely you must have noticed.
Squidward's attractiveness aside, it seemed like Spongebob found him hot while he was having a mental breakdown. When someone's at their lowest point, you're supposed to help them, not hit on them.

In the Italian dub he says "Here we go, I did it". It makes far more sense.
In other languages, the line was changed to "He's so cute!". I dunno if that makes it better or worse.

I can't confirm if the writers found it funny, but it was clearly a mistake on their part.

It was the writers attempting to be funny. Would you expect less from the same episode that had 2 attempted suicide scenes played for laughs or someone literally torching Squidward's artwork in public?

Maybe it was just a compliment. Straight guys do call men handsome for compliment or the writers didn't know how to end the episode.

Rushed episode. Quoth the immortal Shigeru Miyamoto: "A delayed game is good, but a rushed game is forever bad."
I also agree that the line makes more sense in TFOS ("Two Faces of Squidward" in case you're confused).
