when did spongebob went downhill?

UPDATED REVIEW:

In the beginning of the series, SpongeBob SquarePants, since 1999; Season 1 was funny and excellent. During Seasons 2 & 3, it was the brightest side of the classic SpongeBob series. The specials, Christmas Who?, SpongeBob's House Party (Party Pooper Pants) and the SpongeBob SquarePants Lost Episode (The Sponge who could Fly), which are my most favorite specials, were the best of them all. The humor and comedy was excellent and the mean-spirited scenes are very low. After the release of The SpongeBob SquarePants Movie last Nov 2004 (the movie is now 13 y/o as of Nov 2017), Stephen Hillenberg left the show. Years 1999-2004, the time of Seasons 1-3, is considered the Golden Era of SpongeBob SquarePants.

In the start of Season 4 in 2005, SpongeBob was still popular but it starts going downhill. The starting point of gong down is Good Neighbors, the worst episode ever in Season 4 and the 1st worst in the series. There were good specials here like Where's Gary? (Have You seen this Snail?), Dunces and Dragons and Best Day Ever. It was almost the Dark Age of the series. Starting in Season 5, mean-spirited scenes, gross-outs and bad humors and morals increase in the season. To Love a Patty is the perfect example of the most disgusting gross-out, "romance" episode ever (The grossest version of Nasty Patty) :patgross: . Patrick became very jerkish, Mr. Krabs became very greedy (his ethics is very low in Seasons 4-9) and Sandy just became a scientist instead of doing karate. In season 4 and 6, SpongeBob became gay and perverted by stalking at Squidward too many times just to play with him. Seasons 5 is the start of the Dark Age of the series until Season 9a (until SpongeBob, you're Fired).

Aside from Season 5, Season 6 to 9a became very darker because (1) SpongeBob is mostly flanderized in these seasons (A Pal for Gary, Boating Buddies and Squid's Visit), (2) the other characters became flanderized just like Season 5; and (3) there are so many boring and horrible episodes (Season 7 mostly have bad episodes especially A Pal for Gary :patboo: ). The last straw in my life is SpongeBob, you're Fired. :patboo: . This is where I lost respect in Seasons 4 to 9a.

After the 2015 movie, The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge Out of Water, Hillenberg returns to revive the humor and comedy back, but there are few bad episodes like Mutiny on the Krusty, The Sewers of Bikini Bottom and Sportz?. As of now, I declare this a Bronze or Silver Era. Almost a Golden Era of SpongeBob SquarePants.

In conclusion, Season 4 is the start of the downhill due to Good Neighbors and raises up after TSBM: SOW.

I would say Season 5, maybe the second half of Season 4, is when the drop in quality started to become noticeable. Don't get me wrong, there were plenty of good episodes in Seasons 4-5, but there were also episodes like Waiting, that basically devolved SpongeBob and Patrick into whiny children, which I hated. Not only that, real gems like To Love a Patty, Fungus Among Us, Karate Island, Squid Wood, A Flea In Her Dome...

Despite Season 4 having some terrible episodes, however, I personally think it was much more consistently enjoyable than Season 5, and still retained a lot of quality from the past seasons. Honestly, I prefer the earlier episodes of Season 4 to some of the later episodes of Season 3.

The downfall started with Squid Baby

It was VERY mean-spirited and cruel!
You say that as if the show didn't suck in seasons 6-8.

Squid Baby is terrible but the show was dire half a decade before that.

This is for when the entire show went downhill, not least favorite episodes or random terrible episodes.

Wait WHAT????????
He called Sportz bad when a couple days ago he gave it a 7/10. He rates 4/10 episodes lower than 0/10 episodes. He considers his favorite season 6 episode a 5/10. Don't question the rating system, just embrace it.

We all know it went downhill since Season 6, and for a reason: huge fillers, awful humour etc.

But Season 7 is the worst.

In all honesty, the show was at it's worst in 2010. The sheer amount of horrendous episodes is more of that than other years the series was around. A Pal For Gary, Keep Bikini Bottom Beautiful, One Coarse Meal, The Play's the Thing, Rodeo Daze, Summer Job, The Clash of Triton, Grandma's Secret Recipe, Yours, Mine and Mine, You Don't Know Sponge, etc.

While the series did start to go downhill around 2008, 2010 was when it hit rock bottom.
And it finally got to the bus in 2011 and in 2015, it GOT BACK HOME!

I don't think SpongeBob really went downhill, it's true that Seasons 6-8 may not be as good as the previous seasons but they are still good enough to not be considered "bad" in my opinion.

Honestly, I'd say the downfall was at the 83 trilogy.

Rise And Shine: not bad but just meh
Waiting: a boring and annoying episode
Fungus Among Us: NO

Ever since that, we have gotten a bunch of stinkers in that season after the episode like To Love A Patty and A Flea In Her Done

Season 6 was when the downfall started. Some people like to go back more and say that Season 5 kicked it off but I think that season was pretty good.
