Vine is officially shutting down!

So basically all the memes over these past year have come from Vine? I'm not a huge Vine fan, but it's kinda shocking it's going. But isn't there still a place for 5-second clips on Instagram?

I've heard of Vine, but never really cared to find what they were all about. The hoopla over its imminent closure, as evidenced by Google, is just another proof that people who live on the internet have very short horizons. Three years is not a long time.

I have a hard time respecting a culture that grieves over a video-sharing service but enjoys using fellow human beings as pawns in personal and professional ambitions.

I know, yes, a ton of people who think memes die as soon as people other than the original creators pass it around thrive here, but I will (in my more tolerant being) say this: Aw man.

In the days before the announcement, even I was expecting that Vine would just go by the wayside soon, it wasn't as huge and thriving as Snapchat and Twitter (videos) currently are. Of course, hilarious videos were still lurking on Twitter from the service often, however they were mostly one-offs and not hits/hit Viners such as in the past. Just... it was fading and falling from prominence.

I loved how creative and hilarious some Vines laying about were, the 6-second format captured things all well. There were just too many too name, for now.

As for the memes, some were good (in my mind), fit with everything in clever ways, and as of now, bring back memories of the time. I didn't mind some Hotline Bling parodies, rap dances, and other comedy trends.

And plus... for those of you who actually made videos (I assume only approximately ~1 person here), where will the ability to pause recording and pick up again all in the same video happen now (unless you edited it)?

Hopefully, things will stay how they are longer and they won't go down too soon.

Not with all the celebrities who post on it. I bet they would support Twitter.

They might pay it lip service, but I'm hard-pressed to think of any celebrity (outside of the technology sector) who'd pony up to keep Twitter afloat if it was sinking. People will generally move onto the next thing. We're fickle that way.

They had to lay off 9% of their staff and their stockholders are suing them, and they lost about a billion dollars in value. At the current way they're operating, they'll be bankrupt in two years.

Someone's bound to make a better Twitter and people will move on to that.
Also if Twitter didn't push their obvious political agenda (got my account locked, nice, for politely debating someone) maybe that would help.

Also the crowd they cater to wants everything for free. I don't think they'd bother to buy up the site.

I did see a select handful of Vines that I enjoyed, but good riddance

too bad the site will be immortalized in crap YouTube compilations

tfw no more new vine compilations

Indifferent. I never had the app. In the first year and half, there were some hilarious vines all over the place and made me love it, but then the quality of "funny and popular" vines were getting really stale and repetitive and tons of copycats rose to fame. So I stopped paying attention to it months ago. :|

BUt... MySpace still exists? How would Twitter literally disappear in 2 years
I don't mean the site will go offline, someone will buy it up, but Twitter is not doing well financially.

I'm glad I won't be spammed with vine compilation recommendations on youtube despite having never watched them, anymore.
