Honestly, I think he just loves himself (he's also kinda lonely) and the fact that he's never stayed committed to a relationship (ever wonder why we haven't seen Squillia in forever?).
 
The first thing I thought of when I saw SpongeBob's outfit was the Open Window Maniac.

I said a REALLY feminine side, and I didn't say he was gay because of it, but that if he ended up coming out of the closet, it could have been a sign of it

dude, I performed in a musical play last year, that's not what I consider feminine, what I consider feminine are some of squidward's maneurism and tendencies to like outfits that are considered feminine, 1 piece swimsuit, that princess outfit from spongebob you're fired etc

Still a feminine = / = gay.

There are macho men who have crush on only men too.

Squidward having a feminine side does not make him gay. Plus he fell in love with Squilvia in Love That Squid, so he can be bisexual too.

That part in the episode is just a joke however.
