What is it about the Krabby Patty that makes it so secret?

We've seen that Mr. Krabs gets a mystery ingredient delivered (Patty Caper). But other times it is implied that the secret lies either in a combination of common ingredients for the patty itself, or even the way in which the whole sandwich is assembled, although the latter makes little sense considering customers frequently order custom patties without certain toppings. In some episodes Plankton seems to believe (probably incorrectly) that if he can observe a patty being made he'd be able to reproduce it.

What do you think?
 
I am not sure about the secret ingredient is but I do know a little the formula thanks to this site.
 
Maybe it's something really bad that actually has no effect to the Krabby Patty, and if the customers found out, they would stop giving Krabs money..?
 
I believe it's the Patty itself. Plankton in numerous occasions has stolen just the Patty alone. The other toppings just add flavor to it and it's not really needed to have them. The secret sauce as we have heard before, probably doesn't matter. A lot of restaurants have sauce. But the patties don't always have this either. The Patty has many different spices and things inside it as we've seen in Friend or Foe? That's what Plankon might mean by secret ingredient or secret formula.
 
The dark side of me states that Mr. Krabs wants the secret ingredient and secret formula to remain secrets because there's something in them that he doesn't want any of the Bikini Bottomites or the viewers to know. What if there's something in those patties that, if discovered by one of the characters, can ruin the Krusty Krab and possibly even the show overall. :smirk:

I think the secret ingredient is something added to the patty itself to make it taste better than other patties

Plot Twist: There is no secret ingredient, and Mr. Krabs only makes people believe there's something special about his burgers :P
 
I really do think that the secret ingredient is kelp. I mean, think about it: Kelpshakes were addicting. The radioactive part is probably cooked out, much like how the alcohol cooks out of bourbon, and people are addicted to it. It only makes sense whenever Mr. Krabs mentions that he could have been making Kelpshakes the entire time.
 
Honestly, I think the Krabby Patty's secret is just a way of making the batter. Probably no secret ingredient or anything.
 
I think what's so secret could be the secret sauce, for all we know we don't know what it is.
 
A combination of ingredients which Krabs developed into a shape of a burger. Which we saw in Friend or Foe. Plankton believes that if he can extract the Patty substance he would get the actual ingredients and materials. The other ingerdients are just optional materials that could improve the taste if the cook is naturally talented (SpongeBob and Jim as an example).

I would like to imply that the secret is 'love'. But based on the Jim patty experience, we can also loosely assume that the secret is arrogance and cash-based passion.
 
Here's my theory: 20000 years ago in the world of Spongebob, in another dimension unknown to all, Krabby Patty's lived in peace until one day, a great war broke out between the patties. All of the patties ingredients spilled out onto a magical dimensional portal and got transported to Spongebobs dimension. They lay in a secret spot for a few years. Someone then found the ingredients and tasted the secret ingredient. They loved it and kept some of it in a jar. Years later, someone rediscovered the stash of ingredients but instead of keeping someof them, he phoned a secret storage team to take it all away. Meanwhile, the person who owned the jar lived in a caravan. He was forced to move out without the jar because people were building a dump there. The caravan stayed and came to be in slightly bad condition. The jar still lay in it for many years. A bit before the present day of Spongebob, Mr Krabs and Plankton returned he caravan into good condition and opened their burger business. The jar was still untouched with all of the other ingredients Mr Krabs had been using. When he and Plankton fell out, the jar and the other ingredients fell into the pot Mr Krabs was using to cook burgers in. He discovered that the batch suddenly turned out to taste brilliant and he started selling them. He named the burgers Krabby Patty's. He needed more of the secret ingredient and found out the storage company who still had it. He started paying for delivery to the Krusty Krab(70 cents) and he made sure the ingredient was delivered with very good security. And no-one but the Krusty Krab employees and the storage company knew the secret ingredient(excluding Squidward). And that is the story of the Krabby Patty secret ingredient.

Actual answer: An addictive chemical? (Come on, this has to be it, right?)
