Season 9a: Okay
Season 9b: Great

Pretty good season overall, but even 9b is not without a bad one here or there.

Season 9 is just all over the place. There is a clear division of which episodes were before and after the second movie. And yknow what, the ones before were actually spongebob episodes to me. They were straight up and down your typical post first movie episodes, hit or miss. But the second half of season 9, there's no getting around that it is just plain WEIRD. Its not even spongebob anymore! Its so confusing and moves WAY too fast and it is ALL over the place. They are quite literally just throwing in bunches and loads of characters into every episode (Squidward most prominently, its like he has to be in every show like some background character) and there is no cohesive plot minus a few absolute gems the season produced. I dont like all the craziness, weird faces, hyper paced plots,etc.There are very few slow moments that actually feel like spongebob to me, and i never thought that I would ike the old "post movie" spongebob better than i do now...

Agreed. I'm not a fan of any of the newer episodes because of this. Even as a kid, I knew something felt very "off" about the episodes premiering after the 2nd movie came out but couldn't quite place my finger on exactly what it was until a few years later. The newer episodes and seasons are simply too overstimulating for me to watch and don't even feel like they're actually a part of the series I've come to know and love, but rather, a bizarre parody of it.

I stick to watching seasons 1 - 8 and usually don't like acknowledging 9 and beyond because of this.
