To be honest, I was planning to do what PGR did. But I decided not to steal his idea and just develop his idea into something that is easir for me to deliver. A list.

The question is will you finish it... you being Roadie, I say yes, you will.
Hahahaha I am SpongeRoadie UK. I never abandon lists. I cancelled one for a reson but I never abandon a list for no reason.

This is a great idea, and I'm glad that you really take the time to analyze each episode and their strong/weak points. I'll be following.

Plankton! is my favorite season 1 episode for basically all of the reasons you stated. Clever jokes, a great gag that isn't overused, and a wonderful introduction to the cutest super villain of all time. Plankton really stole the show in this episode. They did a great job developing his character in such a short amount of time, and nearly every line of his is hilarious.
Let's just say, after I re-watch episodes and re-analyze each one, there is ONE episode that, IMO is better than Plankton!

No. Do it. But don't brag about how this is your idea :P. But still, the challenge is enticing.

The feeling you get when your friendship is ruined. Hurts. Very much. Well, you guys, that was the storyline of the episode. But like any great cartoons, SpongeBob balances out the heartbreak with a daily dose of hilarity. Today's conflict sees SpongeBob and Patrick becoming ex-best friends and trying to find an instant replcement in Squidward. The man who broke their friendship. The results, the episode turns out really funny. With many great gags. But the writers insisted on installing tear-jerking moments, such as when SpongeBob tried to make 3 friends out of his finger. This episode shows SB's remarkable ability to do any sort of storyline and still make it funny. This episode also shows, that fixing a relationship is better than finding the replacement.

SpongeBob creates the PERFECT balance of a cartoon student. He's so freakishly bad he's entertaining, yet he's a benchmark for all kids with his sheer determination and honesty. He would rather fail than cheat. And that lesson was perfectly illustrated with hilarity. Puff isn't really the perfect type of teacher but she does represent most teachers. She isn't enjoying herself, that's for sure. But those magical moments where SpongeBob actually did well, Puff was happy for him. For the episode itself, it was decent. I like the story. I like how the conflict goes. It's not easy writing I'll give you that. They made an effort to make a complex storyline and it worked. Sort of. Well, this episode is about a failing student that cares and a traumatized teacher who also cares.

I don't doubt it. I don't necessarily think Plankton! is the best Season 1 episode, it's just my personal favorite. :)

Naughty Nautical Neighbors is another one of my favorite episodes. I love the plot and the humor is really well-executed. It's also, to me, the episode that really defines the dynamic between the neighbor trio, even though Jellyfishing was the first to introduce it. NNN just seems to do a better job of developing the relationship between the three (it's also less mean-spirited...). I think NNN might be technically a better episode than Plankton!, but I still prefer the latter.

Boating School is... okay. It's not an episode that particularly stands out to me, but it does have a good moral (better to fail honestly than succeed by cheating).

300px-Pizza_Delivery.jpg

I think this one of the earlier episode where the star is Squidward. Not that he's the main character (since both characters have the same role) but because he really was the star. Showing his incredible and soon to be infamous sarcasm and a funny dusgruntled behavior, as expected from the curmugdeon he is. But In the end, when SpongeBob got hurt, he realised how much it means to SpongeBob and stood up for him. The character that was so rude and egoistical before actually stood up for the person that he despised. He's the perfect balance.

As for the episode, again, it's not a one man show. SpongeBob was really funny too. The storyline is one of the most interesting, but it's not as cleverly written as Plankton! Most people remember this episode as a really funny episode, and I can't lie. This is a really comic episode. The problem is that the episode is building the humour and not the opposite. Which means the story is rather forgettable. Still, welcome to the spotlight, Squidward.

This episode shows how the writers disguised the weirdness of SB's home. It's a fruit, yeah. The nematodes shows that the pineapple is completely edible. You know? Like EVERY OTHER PINEAPPLE. So, the writers made it into a conflict where SpongeBob struggles to find a new home and realised that this might be the time to leave Bikini Bottom. Creating other conflicts and developing more situations. The episode itself, is not one of the best, I agree. It does have a good combination of conflict and situations which is good. More so, it shows the difference between the new writers and the old. The old knows the show and utilize it's absurd setting to make conflicts, situations and gags. But they used it subtly, wisely and disguising it rather than basing the show on it.

Well, it was really funny. Narrowly missing the trap that is to make fun of their main outlet. In this case, old people. It's not a gem. Although it's decently written and have a couple of gags here and there. They made this episode authentic as it is the introduction of MM & BB, yet they made the episode felt like a true introduction. A proper introduction. It shows the identity of the heroes and the situation facing them, which is almost the same as SpongeBob's these days. Both, MM & BB and SB are now in different eras and things have changed for the worse, but they will always be MM & BB and SB. They ARE able to do the extraordinary. Whatever episode, whatever season, whenever.

I take back whatever I said about this episode 14 years ago. The plot was incredibly complex for an early episode. Showing that by that point, the writers started to bloom their thinking tank and started doing difficult writing instead of easy writing. In other cartoons, difficult writing usually makes the episode bad. The plot is complicated and it's showered with jokes that fell flat on it's face. SpongeBob, meanwhile, made it look easy. Utilizing SpongeBob's situation to make gags instead developing the gags from out of no where. But alas, the best character of the episode is Squidward. Anything he says or anything he does is hilarious. So that's Pickles really. A good episode that's good enough to be appeal on anyone.

Weeks ago, I broke my finger. And it still hurts so I couldn't type properly yet.

Pizza Delivery is a good episode, but not one of my personal favorites. However, it does perfectly exemplify why Squidward is my favorite character: he's a sarcastic, grumpy, arrogant jerk, which is what makes him so hilarious, but he still has a heart and can show compassion for other characters. I really love that moment when he stands up for SpongeBob.

Home Sweet Pineapple and Mermaid Man and Barnacle are both average to me, but you're right about HSP using the show's weirdness to its advantage and MM&BB being a nice introduction to our favorite retired super heroes.

Pickles is more or less on the same level as HSP and MM&BB for me, but I do love the scene where Bubble Bass is placing his order. Squidward's sarcasm is amazing.

Hall Monitor is remarkable and I am ashamed for underappreciating it for years. It could've been a boring school-themed episode. But the writers took their thinking caps, bring out their lucky pencils and develop an astounding range of a storyline. They actually used the time to think of situations that would combine together, to make an astounding episode. Something very rarely seen in post-movie eps. The scene where SpongeBob is trying to run away from the maniac because Patrick thinks that both are different person. Genius. Utilizing the situation to create a hilarious scene. So how good was it? It's funnier than Tree At The Treedome and more cleverly written than Plankton! It is, without a doubt, IMO the best season 1 episode. ... so far.

I used to love this episode. Everytime it's on, I started to jump around on my couch waiting for the dance sequence. And when the dance sequence is on (twice) I started dancing on my couch as well. Not anymore. I find it's visual gags and jamming tunes interfering the witty dialogues that could've happen between characters. Which made it worse. It sacrificed witty dialogue for repetitve dance sequences. Making this episode, lackluster. The mediocre storyline didn't help either. So yeah, this episode quite disappointed me as I am looking forward to re-watch it and when I did, I was disappointed. Maybe because I'm getting old. Getting a bit more serious. Oh I don't know, let's just move on.

Honestly, Hall Monitor is just an average episode for me. It has some funny bits, but I don't find it to be particularly clever or memorable. Maybe that's just me. Jellyfish Jam, on the other hand, I completely agree with you on. I loved it as a kid, but rewatching it as I got older I realized that it's a very lackluster episode. The dance scene is entertaining and Squidward gets some good lines, but other than that there isn't much humor or wit to be found in it.
