I've found out that there's quite a bit of people online who hate the episode Artist Unknown, I want to ask for the people who hate it, what makes it so bad? I'd it because it's a Spongebob torture? Because Squidward at the end got his commuppance by making a really amazing marble sculpture that he didn't take credit for. And when we last saw Spongebob, did we see him be sad and upset? No... we didn't. I really don't understand the hate for this episode, and in my mind, I actually find it to be underrated because there's a good variety of jokes like the circle one as well rippy bits.

I don't find any SB torture in the episode. I think it's more of Squidward torture, if you really want to think about it. SB makes his life miserable because he can do perfect circles and art but not by the book. Once he goes by the book, and Squidward needs a statue because of the Art person, SB can't do it anymore, which makes Squidward even more frustrated.

I don't hate it. I find it amusing that Spongebob is better at art than Squidward without even trying. It might be seen as Squid abuse by some but I find it funny. Plus, it has a great twist in the end. I will agree that it's underrated though.

I have literally never seen anybody say they hate this episode. Where did you read/hear that?

Spongebob wasn't torturing Squidward. He was just being a good student. He was polite and respectful to Squidward and wasn't trying to show off or make Squidward feel bad.

Squidward crushed Spongebob's artistic spirit and made him cry, and he took credit for Spongebob's artwork, almost getting it into a museum under his name.

Squidward's behavior was downright despicable.

Well, here's from someone who hates the episode:

Squidward was cruel to SB. That's my main problem with it. He erased his artistic talent, made him miserable in the dump, and insulted his art. Squidward getting a proper comeuppance would've probably saved the episode, but his comeuppance was unknown (no pun intended) to him. If he took credit for the statue and had gotten criticized for it, then it would've made the episode a lot better by giving him a taste of his own medicine. But the ending was incredibly awkward to me.

He actually did get a proper comeuppance.

Spongebob accidentally makes a beautiful piece of art, and Squidward takes credit for it. Then, Squidward accidentally makes a beautiful piece of art, and he gives the credit to the garbage fish. I think that's some pretty sweet irony.

I don't get how in this episode Squidward suddenly sucks at art even though he has nice looking self-portraits.

Is he only good at art that's of himself? :P

I don't think he does actually suck at art in this episode, he's just bad at teaching it, pretentious, and not as naturally talented as SpongeBob. Sure, Squidward's perfect circle and marble sculpture pile of rubble are terrible but on the other hand "Squidward en Repose" and "Bold & Brash" are technically decent despite what the art dealer says.

He probably doesn't have much natural talent (hence the bad circle and sculpture demonstration) but got good at self portraits because that is the only thing he focuses on.

The problem is, it comes across as awkward. It should have had like this Epilogue ending or something that shows Squidward walking through an art museum showing the work there and him going to the dump. However, for all he knows, the art is nowhere to be found and in the dump somewhere, so he doesn't even know he got what he deserved.

That would make it better, but usually people don't know that they got their comeuppance. This always happens to Squidward. If he does know why it's happening to him, then he would have started being nice to Spongebob a loooooong time ago.

Well Squidward doesn't wanna change in the slightest, which is why he's never nice to SB. He even said in one episode "Don't say anything. Remember your karma."

I like this one. It's funny with irony and has a unique setting, and if used correctly that is great, and here it is.
