Remember that scene in No Free Rides when Mrs. Puff gets all serious? Seriously. I think we all really under estimate this quote but seriously, what did Mrs. Puff mean by that statement? We've all known that Mrs. Puff has a "Puff Mama" side of her that's rough around the edges. Examples are Wishing you Well when she wanted to be a "hot riding mama" and got a boat with hot rod flames. In the Boating School song she even belts out a number. You guys might think cars like this and how she acts is just what she likes, but could it be linked with someone else? In Demo. Doofus she becomes "The Huff" and completely goes for this other ego. She completely goes nuts and literally tries to kill SpongeBob. I know SpongeBob is completely annoying to her, but murder? Even at times Squidward hates SpongeBob with all his guts but has really never tried to kill him.

Could this murdering attack be linked to a past of this "old city"?

And what about Mr. Puff? We all know he sadly got turned into a lamp, but is it possible he knew about his wife's life and if so did Mrs. Puff anything to do with his human murder? Likely not, I just want to put this theory on the table to let you guys think it out.

Honestly, this is one of those times where you have to blank out because there is really no way of knowing what happened. I know it was probably used for comical gags in the first place, but it still upsets me a tiny bit when I think about it.

She is clearly mentally fragile and constantly on the verge of a nervous breakdown. ("That whole I'm-going-to-be-doing-this-for-the-rest-of-my-life thing reared its ugly head and I ...") The past events that you mentioned, particularly the Mr. Puff thing, probably still weigh heavily on her mind. In fact, it all started with Mr. Puff being captured and turned into a lamp; the grief sent her into spiraling psychosis from which she never fully recovered. From that point on she had much less respect for the authorities, who were unable to save her husband from The Hooks. She felt powerless and began to break rules here and there. Rules and regulations seemed meaningless in her new perspective of life. Eventually it caught up with her and her teaching license was revoked. At first she was defiant and adamant that she didn't want to teach anymore anyway, but soon realized that it was her only form of escape. When she was teaching hopeful young students the rules of the road, she had a purpose in life. She decided to leave her gritty past behind, move to a new town and start afresh.

But then there was SpongeBob.

Clerk DMAP, will you by any chance give this to us for free in the future?

Or, maybe she's bipolar (remove this post if it's not appropriate, DMAP)

Okay, I'm never seeing Mrs. Puff in the same way again :P

I always thought that just meant in another city, there was another driver who was just as bad as SpongeBob, and she gave that person their licence so she wouldn't have to see them again, and then she felt so bad about it (assuming that fish destroyed the town) that she had to move to Bikini Bottom to escape the trauma.

Okay, so I know my last post didn't do much of a carnival, so I'll sav up me own analysis. This is just a theory anyway, so no need to take it seriously.

As seen in Doing Time, Mrs. Puff is just a regular old determined teacher willing to risk anything so that her pupils can learn, study and pass. Until she met SpongeBob. I don't think any type of driving teacher could stand SpongeBob. Even if he or she is as fast as Tony Stewart, as intelligent as Jenson Button, or as slow and careful as James May. SpongeBob, at this category, is simply unteachable. And he's also one of a kind. He kept turning up, with an optimistic, lively grin as if he never failed a test before. That kind of innocent, naive, unteachable attitude is what might snap Mrs. Puff's sanity. It's not really possible for Puff to have another student as bad as SB before SB. I think it's just a matter that this is a show, and there are many boating school days we might have not seen because it's not an episode. We didn't scout every single day of Mrs. Puff's life. Maybe, she had already tried to go undercover in a new city and starting a new life before. Just to get away from SB.

I've always seen Mrs. Puff as this incredibly dilematic panicky teacher driven insane by her student's incapability to do anything that has anything to do with driving. And yet exuberantly skips to school everyday, completely blind to see how his incompetence is really a problem. SpongeBob acts so optimistic, it drove realistics mad. That's the reason why he's both lovable to watch and annoying to live with. He's like that guy from high school who kept turning around at your house because in his dismay, you're his 'best friend', yet you know him as a 'guy I know from school'. And of course, as a teacher, Puff realised that this yellow lad is her responsibility. And due to her sanity ruined by SB's existance, she couldn't think straight and decided "Murder. It's the only WAY."

The more SB inadvertently annoys Puff, the more intimidatingly crazy Puff becomes
.
About the "Puff Mama" character. I think it's just natural to see a middle age person trying to feel young. Mid-life crisis I think, is what it's called. Maybe back in those VW Beetle, flower power days, Puff was a biker girl and now she's trying to live back her old persona.

And about Mr. Puff. Well, we all know he's turned into a lamp (one of the darkest joke in the show). So, I don't see how this has anything to do with Mrs. Puff. Did the accident involving Mr. Puff's death cause a sudden mental disorder inside Mrs. Puff's soul? Maybe.

Did SpongeBob SquarePants made it worse? It's a fact.
Oh! I've got another theory. Mrs. Puff isn't her real name, and she already attempted to move away from a town to another to avoid a horrible student. Although I must say, it must be a student even worse than SB, and that is, well, not realistic.

It's not like SpongeBob is unteachable though, Sargent Roderick or whatever his name was successfully taught SpongeBob how to drive. All he was missing was seeing, but it seemed like looking at the road made him nervous. Heck, even at the END of Bumper to Bumper he some how managed to get his license, even though he freaked out a couple times. Tony Fast Jr. also helped with SB's nerves. What I'm saying is he is teachable. Roadie your idea of that other city was great. It's possible that it was as easy as Mrs. Puff having another bad student.

wrong

has to be DMAP's real name

There's nothing to stop Mrs. Puff from expelling SpongeBob, but she keeps allowing him to return to her class so clearly there is some unknown motivation behind this. Perhaps she feels responsible for his failure, guilty that he is not improving under her tutelage, determined never to give up on even the most hopeless of students, sympathetic towards him when he is recognizes that he's not up to scratch and simultaneously driven crazy by his unwillingness (or inability) to acknowledge that he is pathologically incapable of learning to drive in a safe and consistent manner and would probably be better sticking to his unicycle.

Or maybe the cops are forcing her to stay. :ninja:

But it's like Squidward with his job. He can quit anytime and find another one but he stays. Why? Probably because he can't find another job, Mrs. Puff is probably in the same boat but she actually does like her job. Both Squidward and Puff have talents that could make them have another job though. Squidward is a great composer/cook/gardener and artist at sometimes and Mrs. Puff paints amazingly in Mrs Puff You're Fired.
