okay, stephen hillenburg has said that he doesn't like blatant pop culture references in his show - in order to keep it timeless. but he's said "although the show occasionally does make reference to pop-culture, the examples are never specific."

so let's list some. :]

in karate island - sandy is dressed as the bride from kill bill. (and some of her karate moves, and lines, imply it further)

in pre-hibernation week a woman tells sandy to "think about the children!" - ripping off helen lovejoy from the simpsons.

anyone else?

The little girl's wish in Christmas Who for front teeth could be a possible reference on Tiny Tim's "All I Want For Christmas Is My Two Fronth Teeth".(according to Wikipedia.)

i thought in karate island sandy wears bruce lee's clothes ^_^

it's virtually the same outfit. but, i see more kill bill than bruce lee in that episode. ( i.e.: sandy mentioning "sidewinders" twice is a direct reference to a character in the film.) then again, kill bill is pretty much 'old-school martial arts film meets the bride who wore black.'

plus, sandy's moves and beatrix's moves are really similar.

sorry for double-posting, but i've remembered a few more:

dunces and dragons, being a pun of dungeons and dragons - also the gag in mid-life crustacean in which :sbx:, :patx:, and :) game similar to dungeons and dragons.

the evil wizard planktonimort - ;) - an homage to harry potter's nemesis voldemort.

spongebob's song in ripped pants sounded a lot like something from the beach boys.

mermaid man and barnacle boy = batman and robin.

i was a teenage gary; a nod to old-school horror films such as i was a teenage werewolf. :gary:

And if you notice, it's Planktonamour, and Rowling pronounces Voldemrot as "Voldemor" =P

Fear of a Krabby Patty: ET reference

This is kinda stretching it, but Boys Who Cry in Whale of a Birthday is based on boybands like *NSYNC, Backstreet Boys, 98 Degrees, etc.

The only pop culture reference I know is actually SpongeBob being used in Fairly Oddparents, "CheeseBoy SquarePants".

:w00t:

i dotn watch that show, on a count of that that kid bugs me on there. :yahoo:

anyoen happen to cap that though or have a synopsis of it?

That scene from 'Ugh' with Spongebob looking at the stick, and the fire...with the weird voices... is from a movie...right?

SB-129 is based on that guy from Star Wars...
