How was Karen created?

This is something I've often wondered in the series, how Karen was created

In some episodes, it's implied that she has parents, such as when Plankton said, "Your parents must have been part-computer or something", as well as in a comic, when Karen stated that her motherboard told her not to date him

According to "Friend or Foe", she was a security system before she met Plankton, and Plankton proposed after their third date

Although "Karen 2.0" implies that it was Plankton himself that built her, evidenced by the fact that he was able to build an updated version of her

I've wondered this too, they're not very consistent when it comes to her origin. I always thought she was built by Plankton because he was lonely. That's my head-canon.

Plankton is a scientist so he probably knows how to make artificial intelligence with ease. We've seen it with Robot Krabs, and the robot chef before.

I think I said this before but.. I think she was a sercuity system before she met Plankton, probably being one her whole life or temporally. When they became a couple, Plankton probably built a robot excoskeleton computer/mobile computer for her to be around Plankton more (the computer we see her on today.) So she probably transferred her hard drive to this new computer. (She did a similar thing in Komputer Overlord when the two split.) This probably made her really happy and they eventually got married (Komputer Overlord picture again.) it's just my educated guess/theory though.

It all happened when Plankton was making popcorn.
At that very moment in the apartment directly above, a rogue scientist doing tests on radioactive ants knocks over a jar of his infected specimens, one of which, without any hesitation, crawls down one floor and miraculously lands undetected. It viciously bites our soon-to-be superhero. He screams in pain, stumbling backwards. In a split-second, Plankton finds himself in a freefall that sends him squarely through the roof of a vats of acid factory, and into a vat of acid that is tipped over by an errant alien spaceship, carrying him blindly on a wave of acid during a solar eclipse on a leap year, precariously careening onto a bomb-testing site, where a cataclysmic explosion exposes our hero in waiting to highly toxic radium gases. Then, as fate would have it, magical storm clouds move in, zapping him with a neon-plaid lightning bolt and raining radioactive ooze, which, through centrifugal and electromagnetic turbulence, causes a powerful earthquake deep in the jungle two-thousand miles away, consequently unearthing a magical crystal with wings that flies to Plankton's exact location, and, powered by super gamma energy currents, pilots him to open skies until, not paying attention, the crystal clips the top of a billboard, flinging him back to his apartment miraculously unharmed, when... [microwave beeps]
...he proceed with movie night and eat slightly overcooked popcorn.
Suddenly, an amazing reaction to the overcooked popcorn hits him with a jolt of cosmic super energy, metamorphasizing Plankton's calculator into an incredibly strong, seastar-wearing computer.
And that is how it became the superhero we have come to know as... Karen: The top technology of the sea!

Plankton made a calculator. Then he put some something like Kelp Grow on her then Karen was created.

No aspect of Karen has ever been consistent. Sometimes she's mobile; sometimes she's hemmed to the wall. Her face has ranged from a pair of eyes to a full face to a mere wavelength line. It seems that as the series goes on, they're attempting to humanize her more. Although I know there are many people here who believe she should be in more episodes and have an increased status on the show, I don't think they necessarily need to change everything about her to do that.

Ahem...

but now I'm getting off on a tangent...

Plankton found her as a security system and reprogrammed her. He installed numerous programs to make her more person-like. This explained Karen's development, which is why she got more of a personality in later seasons.
