Do you like Patrick Star?

I prefer him when he is a mellow contrast to SpongeBob (like he was early on) or when SpongeBob and Patrick are being silly and cute together. I don't really like it when they make him too much like SpongeBob, too hyperactive or childlike.
Earlier on, though, Patrick had a much darker side. He'd literally get psychotically violent when things weren't going his way. They toned that down later. It was funny, but also kind of unnerving. Especially in "Nature Pants."

I did like when he used to be a sort of faux-mentor/big brother to Spongebob, sort of taking him under his wing and trying to show him how the world works (but utterly failing and just leading him down a path of darkness and death lol)

Sponges heal instantly at least in some cases shown in The Bully so it's not like it really hurt him. :P
True. But that WAS really funny.

I usually like Patrick, but he annoys me the most when he's being exceptionally jerky (Yours, Mine, and Mine), exceptionally oblivious (You Don't Know Sponge), or exceptionally useless (Smoothe Jazz in Bikini Bottom). The Card, strangely enough, has no bearing on my opinion on him at all.

If he's overly sarcastic or overly dumb, it tends to be annoying to the other characters. So it depends.

I usually love Patrick, but it usually depends on his stupidity. There are some episodes where he's just an outright jerk (Dumped comes to mind), but maybe it could be attributed to his stupid-ness. It wouldn't be the same without him, no matter how dumb he gets.

I think he's a good character. While he's not quite as appealing in the post-movie seasons (he just lacks the same, brilliant one-liners he had in the earlier seasons), I've never had a problem with him at all (not even in episodes which other people remember him by such as IWS, SiTW, or PSP).

I thought the serious answer after my comment would have given it away that the first part wasn't meant to be serious. I should have put a smiley face after it or something. I apologize.

lol I'm sorry

yes, i like Patrick. I think that most of the time, his stupidity are funny, and when he act like a jer, I forgive him because he's really stupid and don't know that he's wrong. Also I think his character design is likeable.

Even people who hate Patrick Star can't deny that he's absolutely adorable. He's a big squishy pink gumdrop with nubby little limbs.

The only episode when Patrick got on my nerves was "New Student Starfish." Even then, he apologized- and it seemed pretty sincere. Patrick doesn't seem like the kind of person to fake cry/tears.

A good Patrick is a Patrick that is a different charater to SpongeBob. A much more melancholic, dumber version of SpongeBob but it's still a difference. He shouldn't be doing something dumb with SpongeBob, he should be the reason why SpongeBob does dumb things. He's not SpongeBob's "sidekick" or whatever, he's SpongeBob's best friend who has his own views on life and different reactions to certain events.

A good Patrick is also a Patrick that is not the main star of the episode. Instead he's either the one who starts a conflict or the one who fails in trying to solve the conflict. At the very least, he stars in an episode but has another charater to play off (Valentine's Day, Rock-a-bye Bivalve, etc.) so he doesn't have to carry the entire episode. He's the comic relief but he's not stock-dumb (well, in the first few seasons at least). So letting him tell a story through his actions would be a bad move, but putting him beyond the background wouldn't benefit the episode, either.

So in summary, yes I like Patrick. When he's in full force he's a masterful comedy tool.

Also, Classy Patrick is better than Cute Patrick.

One-tooth Patrick is usually bad news.

An aspect of Patrick I find funny is when he gets upset about something and goes into a rage. It's hilarious when he sulks in Valentine's Day and smashes up the carnival or hunts SpongeBob in Nature Pants. It's a nice contrast to SpongeBob, who is softer and more sensitive.

This.
Patrick is a great character when they use him as a comedy tool correctly. When his actions help drive the plot as a side character it makes it even better. Telling a story through his actions entirely hasn't gone well in the past (I'm thinking of episodes like Rise and Shine, and The Donut of Shame), but otherwise he's great. Even if he's being a jerk sometimes, I can't help but love him anyway.

I think Spongebob and Patrick are both kind of insane, but in different ways.
Spongebob is thrown into a depression at the least provocation and loses his grip on reality- whereas Patrick starts hulking out and goes on furious destructive rampages.

I think "Secret Box" was one of the only pre-movie episodes that was really Patrick-centric, and I think it was done very well.

I'm mixed about him. Season 8 is a season i do really like but Patrick pretty much through out that season was just plain unlikable. I did think they at least fixed this by Season 9 a little bit.

I believe I had a gigantic convo with Kazuma about this (Kazuma wherever you are :'( ) but for the final verdict, I just think he went down the drain over the years and while he has his moments these days (esp in the movie), he simply does not compare to his S1 days.
