I think cancelling it after the 3rd movie is the best choice. SpongeBob is great, but it's time for it to retire. I'm scared Nick won't let it though, because to them quantity > quality

If they run out of ideas, like the classic Powerpuff Girls did, yes. But if they have plenty of new ideas (like Star Trek or The Simpsons), no they won't.

Then again, they could always publish ideas that do not make it to the TV screen in comic books...

Spongebob is five billion times better than any CN show though so that isn't saying much
Unless they're instant classics like Dexter's Laboratory and The Powerpuff Girls Classic.

Powerpuffs is garbage

Never heard of Dexter's, almost certainly garbage though considering it's CN

Like that will ever happen Nick loves the sponge they wouldn't cancel him if they were offered every current CN show
Nickelodeon made their biggest mistake in the mid-1990s, when they sold Jumbo Pictures, an animation studio owned by Jim Jinkins (the creator of Nickelodeon's Pinwheel and Allegra's Window) to The Walt Disney Company.

Jumbo brought back Doug (a cartoon originally created for Nickelodeon for four seasons) under Disney's ownership of Jumbo with three more seasons that aired in syndication and on ABC's One Saturday Morning lineup.

They also made a feature-length movie (it bombed in the box office; Disney thought it was a good idea to bring Doug's First Movie to theaters in response to the popularity of Nickelodeon's Rugrats Movie) and a live show at the Disney Parks under Disney's ownership.

Jim Jinkins also created PB&J Otter and 101 Dalmatians: The Animated Series while Jumbo was owned by Disney.

Jim Jinkins later started another animation studio called Cartoon Pizza (which is also no longer around).

Cartoon Network was a lot better in the 1990s/2000s than it is now. Maybe you weren't old enough to remember.

Eh, you might be right. Honestly I haven't seen much of pre-2014 Nickelodeon either (Just Spongebob, Rabbids, Penguins of Madagascar, and the episodes of Thundermans that aired in 2013). Very little of anything else really. I only started frequently watching Nickelodeon in 2015 and I never watched CN or Disney (the TV channel). I never watched anything else.

Nickelodeon acquired Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, and if they cancel SpongeBob, that'll be my go-to show on Nickelodeon. They just ended the 2012 Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles TV series (it had a great run), and they're now producing a new one. TMNT is continuing to be a cash cow among its audience of boys, being a cartoon show that has been toy-driven since 1987 and based on a comic book first produced in 1984 by Kevin Eastman and Peter Laird.

TMNT is finished? Interesting. I haven't watched it since the end of Season 2/beginning of Season 3.

Aside from that, I highly doubt it will end in 2020, but I don't mind if it ever does get cancelled, because it's been running for a while now, especially for a Nickelodeon cartoon, but since SpongeBob's the mascot and one of Nickelodeon's few current popular showd, I bet it will go further than 2020. I'm still wondering about The Fairly OddParents though.

We should know the difference between ENDED and CANCELLED:

Ended: Stop the production with producers and crews decision (probably any other reasons too) by giving a proper closure to the show

Cancelled: Stop the production because of many various reasons (including/not including crews decision) and the show stopped without any proper closure (or stopped in the middle)
