Abandoned Places Appreciation Thread

I dunno about you, but I personally find [pictures of] abandoned places very interesting! What stories lie in their past? What was their purpose? How old is it?

So, if you want to join in on the wood-rotting, metal-rusting, paint-peeling, eerie goodness, feel free to post some pictures you find!

Personally, I think abandoned amusement parks are especially cool.

Old asylums, on the other hand, not so much. Those can be legit creepy sometimes... (not to mention sometimes Google search mixes in horror movie results when searched wrong...)

But you can still post some anyway, lol :P

Fake/fictional pictures WILL be accepted, however; if you know it's fake or are unsure, please leave a little note ^^ Just that some people might want to see real abandoned places, but I honestly don't mind much.

You could call Bombay Beach an abandoned place, but I don't have any pictures of the actual (ghost) town. I should've taken some.

Also, why is this in Arts & Entertainment? o.o

Quite simply, the creepiest place in the world : The Pripyat Amusement Park. Abandoned since 1986. The symbol of the horrendous, spine-chiling Chernobyl disaster.

i feel like people should go and get things like and restore them and fix them up and i bet people would go there again

Oh, I guess i misread the description as general interests, and meant to put it in Nautical Nonsense or something...
But i guess abandoned places can be... a source of entertainment?

Actually, there's quite the number of abandoned morgues, AKA those places where they examine dead bodies.... So those can be creepy. Especially when you read about what contraptions you're seeing....
Some morgues have what look like body freezers and/or cremators, blehh... And the examination tables always have icky stains... uuuuurrrrrrr

Wait... I'm just now realizing there's quite a few unused railroads in my area! (I guess thats what you get for living in one of the oldest states, AND a former settler's town too!) There's some woodsy hiking trail nearby that has an old railroad somewhere in it; a park that i think has somewhat buried tracks; and i think there's even a track near my house, and the street cuts right through it! I should take pictures when our weather clears up!

Eh, I personally believe it's better to keep it that way. I mean, we have a lot of active amusement parks (and others), but these abandoned place are awesome.

I think it's because you would expect an amusement park to be bright, cheerful, and full of (happy, sad, scared, etc.) people while cemeteries are almost always empty unless if there's a funeral or something. It's scarier that there's an absence of life in a place formerly full of it (the amusement park) than a place that's meant to be full of dead people already. If we were in the middle of a zombie apocalypse, however, then yeah, a cemetery is the last place where you'd want to be.

Whoops! Don't want this thread to get.... abandoned!

*badum-tsss*

But really I should find more pictures. I really want to take pictures of my own....
