I didn't like this episode. I didn't like the premise. SpongeBob chewing his nails is gross and we even got a closeup of him eating it. It's just disgusting and this is the worst episode of Season 12 imo. Rating: 3.5/10

At first I was skeptical, y’know. Adding features to an established main character isn’t always the best idea. I was betting on what the “bad habit” would be, and I literally SQUEALED when I saw him begin to chew his nails. I have an awful nail-biting issue, and seeing SpongeBob deal with it was admittedly heartwarming at first. Key word: at first. It slowly became weird, but it’s understandable. There’s only so much you can do with an episode based on biting fingernails. I’m just having mixed emotions about the ending of the episode. He was biting his nails because of... Squidward? Uh, what? At least it makes sure that SpongeBob having a newfound finger-biting craving isn’t technically canon. Adding this to his character is relatable, but it shouldn’t be used in more than one episode. Just like his teeth whistling shouldn’t really be used in more than one episode.

Okay, so let’s talk about Hans. I saw it coming, thanks to the “Handemonium” episode. I’m slightly irritated that they’re trying so hard to keep the show fresh by bringing back older characters, like DoodleBob and Bubble Buddy, however, it was a bit of a clever move. In “Suds”, Hans is a doctor. It’s only fitting that he was the doctor in “SpongeBob’s Bad Habit”, too.

So, anyway, the episode was quite interesting at first, got kind of repetitive and gross, and had a Tidal Zone-esque ending. Also, they missed an opportunity to have SpongeBob try on some gloves at Glove World to keep him from biting his nails. Instead, he, again, tried to bite another hand.

Episode rating: 6/10
It could’ve been worse. At least it was different.
