205a. Whirly Brains

In terms of animation, this is probably one of the most visually stunning episodes yet, and there were a lot of good visual gags.
But this feels like a total step down from last season; the writing felt really rushed and a lot of it felt weird and bad Season 7-ish. Hopefully this isn't an indication of what's to come.

After re-watching it, I didn't enjoy it. I didn't get much out of this episode. I still love the visuals though. I noticed the line quality has changed a little bit. It looks more natural and visually appealing. And of course the facial expressions were amazing. But I'm gonna say meh, it wasn't my cup of tea, and I hope this type of episode (story and humor wise) doesn't become the norm in season 10.

season 4-9 aint all so bad said:
This episode was awesome! A great start to a season, and an enjoyable one. Also, am I the only one that laughed real hard at the ending of the episode? 9.5/10. Looks like S10 ain't bad too. Better change my name. UPDATE: I can't change my name until November 27. Dang it!
PM a mod or admin about it.

I liked this episode. It wasn't as good as other post second movie episodes, but I still enjoyed it. I LOVED the animation, though! :sbthumbs:

Good start for a new season anyways. I give it a 7.5/10.

omfg

I haven't watched the episode yet, but i'm hearing... really strange things

Eh I mean it's pretty obvious they weren't going to make a Pre-Movie quality episode that fast, they might never do it again tbh

I mean pretty obvious just by seeing the title you can tell it's going to be weird.

Wonder what MermaidPants is going to be like. Is it going to be turning Spongebob into a Mermaid?
MermaidPants is SB and Pat roleplaying MermaidMan and BarnacleBoy.

I don't get it why people consider this specific episode "season 6/7-ish." Before season 6 and 7 SpongeBob and Patrick also acted season 6/7-ish in some episodes (Yeah, the first five seasons). The two seasons after did it mostly wrong, but this specific season 10 episode did the "season 6-7 personalities" good. It worked pretty well.

I watched the episode, and i can say that pretty much everything is good

except the story

I mean, most of the new episodes don't have great stories but srsly

I'm sorry...but this episode was horible.

The annimation: This felt like season 2-3 in HD. It looks very good,yet...odd. It just doesn't work compared to season 8-9.

The Story: "SpongeBob and Patrick get hooked on the latest fad – flying your own brain like a tiny drone." This feels...bare bones. I honestly feel like this story was just rushed. It's honestly even more basic than the earlier episodes.

The Jokes: Is it at least funny? NOPE. The only thing i found funny was this line...

Patrick: [laughs] M-O-O-N. [laughs] That spells moon! [laughs hysterically]

Other than that, nadda. Zip. No. Nay.

Overall: I did not enjoy this,I hope they fix this in the other seasons.

Score- 3/10

This episode is great !!! animation, jokes, and even crazy story are amazing! There are a lot of unpredictable things happening, and this is very good ... I saw some people talking that Spongebob was stupid as the season 6-7, but I think he was the right way.

10/10 :)

Vincent Waller said he thought the scripts for Season 9B were too long and they had to go through several re-writes. For Season 10, they cut down each script from 25 pages to around 10 pages. So, I think this does result in simpler plots or stories.

That explains a lot! No wonder I'm so hooked on season 9b! :P

I have a feeling that season 10 episodes will feel a lot like the first three seasons.

Um...I guess that was a good episode. Weird concept, though nothing truly mindblowing (heh). Patrick with no eyes looks somewhat creepy though and that old man capturing the brains? Eye (heh x2) don't think he had the most pleasing face to look at.

As for the humor, well, Squidward thinking they're invaded by Martians was really funny. There was some other minor gags such as the Mr. Krabs and Mrs. Puff date (!!!) but otherwise this episode was pretty light on jokes. The episode does remind me of Pranks A Lot because it's the same pranking motif as that one. This episode is better, though.

I wish they would have made a nerd joke in there somewhere...you know, because they're also brainiacs? ...sorry, I'm not sorry. (heh x3)

Also, I have to mention the animation because it was quite...something. The characters feel very expressive...even when they don't have eyes. I really like the animation in this episode (and probably the rest of the season) and it's a very interesting mix between season 9b's animation and seasons 2-3's animation. All in all, it just works.

So...what's my overall thoughts on the season opener? It's pretty good but I can't give it higher than 7/10. With such an insane concept, mind you (heh x4), I would expect a bit more insanity and while I got that from Squidward, the rest is pretty standard stuff for Spongebob.

It's not the worst episode, though...well, duh and it has no big flaws to point out. It's simply a good episode. For the next episode, MermaidPants...they really need to up the ante because I looked at that plot synopsis, and from that I think that the episode could be absolutely fantastic!

Guess we'll have to watch and see whenever that comes out?

Bluey, out.

This episode was very different compared to most other Spongebob episodes. Like, wow, that expressive animation was GREAT first of all; it was the most expressive it's ever been, I'll say, and I'd really like to see that change stay throughout the rest of the series...though maybe it could be slightly balanced. Besides that, the story itself is quite odd in terms that like, it's far from being down to earth and it makes the episode TOO wacky in that sense, and Patrick's flanderization doesn't help much to that (he seems to be the only character who's character changed most throughout the series). However, I loved the nod to Krusty Love; it isn't as out of place or as direct compared to other nods to classic episodes in Season 9B.

I can only say two things about this episode... funny and weird.

My favorite scene in this episode would be when SpongeBob and Patrick are flying their brains inside SpongeBob house. Everything else in this episode was very cartoony and zany, and is that a bad thing? Well, SpongeBob has never been a zany show, but it's always good to try something new, even if it does not work out. I'd be interested to see if the rest of the episodes in season 10 turn out to be.

Final ranking on episode: 8.9/10.0

It's was a meh episode to me. Not very funny. But it's halloween, so I guess it's alright.
And the no eyes, with empty eye sockets on the eye kinda freak me out... It's kinda "hard" watching it.
I loved the spandy fan service on this episode haha.
SpongeBob: "Oh, I love when Sandy gets agressive!"
Hey SpongeBob are you into that stuff? hahaha

A 4/10 to me.
I don't really want to watch it again, because of the plot. But I would watch it because of the spandy fan service.
And don't come telling me it wasn't a fan service. SpongeBob is full of adult jokes >.>

Goodness me, Mr. Krabs. You can't take a lady on a date in an ally.

Yeah, the episode was weird. But I like weird, so I have no complaints.
Good god, that animation. It reminds me much of Sponge Out of Water. I really don't wanna spoil the episode too much.
