Season 1 is so mellow compared to the rest of the show

Season 1 is very soothing to watch. It's also strange going back after watching a modern episode. There's no screaming and loud music played every second. There are at least a couple moments of silence in every episode. Not just that, the music is quieter too, may have to do with the usage of different sound equipment. This was done 20 years ago, when kids had more broad attention spans, which could is explain all this. Season 1 just gives me a weird lukewarm nostalgic feeling, Y'know. The old cel animation, Spongebob's deeper voice, and the overall mellow tone, and slow episode pace. You can even hear the underwater bubbling effect, which is no longer existent. Season 4 is the last season where the show was still calm, ever since Season 5, the show has been very loud, hyperactive, and zany, especially post sequel episodes.

Compare how calm, cool, and collected this is (Notice how there's no background music for almost a minute)

I mean, if you’re going to make a show about a talking sponge living in a pineapple, you’ve got to ease your audience into the concept. I’m sure if the show started with the tone of Season 11, it’d be a failure.

Season 1 was probably trying to play it safe, get a following before it could start being crazy. Though, I would still much rather SpongeBob be that season 1 feel than the craziness that's season 11.

That last clip is actually from season 12, but I guess it's not really much different anyway.

I agree that watching a Season 1 episode feels weird after watching Season 11, but I'm definitely glad they change it every once in a while, it keeps the show interesting

I also notice that in the show's earlier seasons, every episode had several lines of dialogue without music, looks at these clips:

Is just it me, or did the old sound editing and animation make the pre-movie episodes funnier than they actually are. Imagine of Sailour Mouth had season 8's sound effects and animation, wouldn't be as funny, would'nt it.

By the way, I'm not a post-movie/modern spongebob hater. I think season 10/11 are okay
