This is easily my favorite genre of video game. I love RPGs a lot. My favorite games are:

Final Fantasy VI
Paper Mario
Paper Mario TTYD
Mario and Luigi SS
Pokemon Platinum
Pokemon Black/White
Mario and Luigi BIS
Super Mario RPG

Yeah I don't have too many RPGs, but the ones I do, I hold dear to my heart.

I've played a ton of RPGs before so you could say i'm very into this genre. My favorites are Tales of Symphonia, Chrono Trigger, Final Fantasy VI & VII, Persona 3, 4 & 5, Xenoblade Chronicles, Earthbound, Ni No Kuni, the Pokemon games, etc.

I've played one of the Pokemon games and I thought it was pretty cool! I spent quit a few hours on it to say the least! :hehe: Also played Super Paper Mario, but that's really it. I don't really play RPG's a lot.
Super Paper Mario is like a half-rpg, there's no turn based combat, but there's still an interesting story. I told ssj this, but if you like that game you should definitely play the first two, you will absolutely adore them, I almost guarantee it.

I see, you do have a point. The attacking was more traditional similar to the mainline Mario series, right? But, yeah, I'm planning to get the second one; and I want to play the first one, but I don't have a Nintendo 64 and well... Wii Shop Channel is completely out of the question.

Yeah the first two have turn based combat, and more in depth partners, I barely remember much about the pixels from Super, while I can recall every single partner and a fact about them from the first two games. Also you can get PM64 on Wii U VC, just letting you know.

Oh you don't? You should totally get one...of the Switch. Yeah you're not missing out on too much from the Wii U since a lot of the games have kinda been done on the Switch, some even better.

Back on topic, TTYD is pretty much almost objectively better anyways, so you're getting the better of the two.

Um... do the Pokemon Mystery Dungeon games count as RPG's? I don't know a lot about RPG's, so I am asking to be sure. If so, I've played Gates to Infinity and it was super fun to me.
Yeah, that is an RPG I believe.
