Well, since I'm here, might as well make a topic.

As the title suggests, have any of you ever noticed any, like, episodes with some layer of seriousness on them?

From what I faintly remember it was mostly around Seasons 5-9.

The best example I can think of is Have You Seen This Snail, with the whole Gary go missing schtick, which might hit a few cords on people who've lost pets before, or if you wanna stretch it, a parent who lost their child. And also the fact the main bad guy of the episode is an old woman who overfeeds snails and kills/eats them.

Another one is the first movie, which is a pretty big far cry from the actual show tone-wise.

What do you guys think?

I think you can call "serious" most of the specials, since they more plot and adventure-based. "Friend or Foe" is prime example.
Oh yeah, definitely Friend or Foe. That was a good one. lmao

I think "New Leaf" can count as a serious episode, since even if it was some kind of parody, it wasn't really humorous, episode was focused just on story.

The Sponge Who Could Fly defiantly rings a bell, felt like a drama to me.

Also the first movie isn't an episode, but I do feel it is one of the more serious things SpongeBob has done, especially with that sad scene.

It makes sense for the movies to have some seriousness on them anywho.

You can't really bring people to theaters otherwise.
