As someone who doesn't know anything about the first movie, can somebody explain why it was so bad?

I loved the first movie, but this one just feels a bit...ugh. I don't like when sequels take the parody route to the extreme; in what way does a Romeo and Juliet retelling require a Sherlock Holmes sequel? At least do a reverse Lion King and parody Hamlet or something...

I didn't like Gnomeo and Juliet myself, but a Sherlock Holmes retelling?! Really?! Shakespeare has a ton of material they could use for parody, so a Holmes parody literally makes no sense as a sequel. A spin-off, maybe, but not a full-fledged sequel.

A Hamlet or maybe Macbeth parody would make more sense.
