If you owned a DSi back in the day (late '09 from early '15 for me cause that ONE ***** IN P.E. CLASS STOLE IT), you might've somehow connected yourself to the internet, gone on the DSi shop to buy Flipnote Studio, and make some stupid stuff. I know I did. Just today, my mom reminded me that on January 14 2014, four years ago and roughly eight months after the Hatena closed its doors, I was still making my own. Man, it's cringe-worthy stuff, but in a weird, nostalgic kind of way. That's how a lot of stuff on my DSi was. Odd, but memorable in my mind.

(man I wish I had my DSi back about now...)

Now, I mentioned this 'Hatena' thing earlier in this topic, and you might be saying to yourself, "What the heck is a hatena?" Well, I don't actually know either. But I DO know that the Flipnote Hatena was apparently a place where you could share flipnotes with other people ON THE INTERWEBS.

(This is basically all it was.)

I didn't give it a bat of an eye at first, but when my brother's friend came over and showed us the stuff that was on there, oh man.... I wanted it. Seriously, I WANTED IT. When you're a 10-year old autistic with no sense of mind like I was, ohhhh you'd want it. It's just a shame the internet never allowed me to go there once. :(

In 2013, the Hatena shut down. Despite not being there once, I had lived the place out on YouTube and a part of my childhood still died that day.

And then in 2014, someone brought it back online under the name "Sudomemo"... and my memories were destroyed bit by bit.

I mean, music videos were pretty saturated back in the day from what I heard, but this (combined with the thumbnails) is a little too much. If you remember the original Flipnote Studio, count out the amount of times you see "MV" and try to not die a little bit inside in the process. I don't like it. No one should like it. I'd honestly want to have the flipnotes of people mocking Justin Bieber back rather than this.

(Seriously kill me)

Well, that kind of turned into a rant at the end, but I'm done for now. I'll probably talk about more DSi nostalgia in the topic, but that's it for now. Excuse me while I purify myself.

I might start sharing some of my old ones from third grade, if anyone's interested. :hehe:

I remember my brother showing me a bunch of these and I laughed so hard at some of them.

I remember having a DSi from 2011-2013, and I occasionally used the Flipnote app for simple “bouncing ball” or “mouth movement” tests. However, one of my friends showed me the Hatena one day, and the first video he showed me was Mario turning into Weegee with Psycho music playing. That got me a little interested.

Back in like 1st grade I had a DSi and my friend and I made this whole Flipnote sketch with the voices and everything. Those were the days...I kinda miss it now.

Alright, I've decided it's time to reveal one of my flipnotes. It's loosely based off a certain question of "The Impossible Quiz" just to let you know. And yes, that is my voice in the video (from 4 years ago).

https://www.facebook.com/plugins/video.php?href=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.facebook.com%2Fshbentley%2Fvideos%2F10201926749510065%2F&show_text=0&width=560"

As you can see, I was truly a prodigy in lip-sync skills.

The "Channel 006" at the beginning of the video was actually there because it was part of an ongoing series of flipnotes I was doing, which all began with "Channel <insert number here>" and were initially used to test lip-sync. Overall, only 14 flips were conceived and made. All of them are pretty much lost now (except for the one above), but maybe that's a good thing. I also stole a few ideas, as you'll probably soon find out.

Here's what I recall from the series:

001 - A man says "I like pie", as a pie appears behind him and he says "what...".
002 - A man jumps into a Mario pipe and repeatedly enters and exits, one time with him saying "I HAVE SPECIAL EYES." Then, we find out the pipe actually leads off a cliff, and throws all six men featured out of existence.
003 - A game of jump rope goes on. One man gets tired of flipping the rope, and knocks over the jumper to stop him.
004 - A bowling match failure in which a man can't... bowl. He gives up, throwing the ball in the air. When the ball hits the ground, all the pins collapse. (Inspired by this. It's episode 4.)
005 - A 3D test. The backround is just a spinning cube, and the audio is me saying "OMG 3D" over and over.
006 - The link above. (It was originally going to be about a guy in a band. A rubber band at that.)
007 - A short animation considering the origin of Firey from BFDI. (A man literally burns up after staring at the sun for too long.) I should mention that the background music was this.
008 - I forget this one. Sorry. If I somehow remember, I'll post.
009 - A man interacts with the "Channel 009" screen. He shrinks, uses portals, and eventually breaks the title so bad it says "Channel 010", serving as the opening for the next flipnote.
010 - An almost acid trip-like short I made based off this Korean Gumball promo.
011 - see 008.
012 - A time lapse of me drawing an impossible triangle, shortly before the universe collapses on itself.
013 - Basically a bunch of bad stuff happens, as the number 13 is "unlucky".
014 - A short based off this (it's episode 13 this time around).
