Huh. I'm making this thread of all people? Go figure. O_o

Talk about your hopes for the season here. Yankees fans can get out. Red Sox opening day is tomorrow. Very much looking forward to it, but it won't be the same without our beloved David Ortiz. I'm keeping my fingers crossed for another great season; we've certainly got player potential.

RSF isn't here to do the complaining so I'll do it for him.

How can a team that was so good last year come back and start sucking so much??? What the heck happened to what looked to be much improved Sox pitching staff (including our Cy Young winner)...or the offense, which is suddenly completely dead? Suddenly we have trouble scoring a single run until at least the last three innings? Did we leave our talent behind in 2016? Well, at least we have a lot of season to go. Come on folks.

lol. I hated that game. It seemed like one of the only times the Mets lost dramatically.
It definitely was a little shocking to me to see that. I know the Nats are on fire this season but they completley annhilated a ton of their records. (franchise record high runs, for starters) I'm learning in my ~1 year of watching baseball that it often just does not do what it's supposed to :P

I've been watching baseball for five years and the Nats were all about Bryce Harper ever since then. Although he isn't really great, since the Nats never got ahead of the NLDS during the playoffs.

I'm quite a big fan of him, though I do admit there are far more "power players," iif thats the way to put it. I saw him in 2016 and thought he was good but apparently he was in a slump last year.. I have to say I think he's killing it this year. :dunno:

I also think he has the most walks of any player this season (or maybe in general), which isn't really a good or bad thing, I just enjoy little statistics like that. :P

I mostly enjoy statistics like home runs, saves, strikeouts, hits and RBIs from players. If they reach an all-time record or a certain number, that's where I find out about it. But for walks, I don't think they're that important towards baseball. But you're right about Bryce Harper getting the most Balls on Bats (or walks) as of today, with 26.

That's typically good, means they fear him enough as a good hitter for either intentional walks, get nervous and lose control, or he's good at fouling tough strikes off and having discipline at the plate. Either that or an umpire hated a few of those pitchers, oh boooooy have guys like CB Bucknor been inconsistently bad already.

THey aren't that important but I do find their concept interesting, probalbt because I never knew they existed before I started watching baseball. I probably should delve more into individual player stats but I'm lazy af so I tend to let r/baseball do the work for me, for the time being anyways.

That's the thing though, it's not like the stat accounts for stuff like that or pitch framing, so I don't take it TOO seriously but it's always intereseting to look at. I really wanna delve into sabermetrics but I'm also lazy af. :P

There's this great site called Baseball Reference, which has a lot of good baseball stats. It's very accurate in terms of recording them, so it would probably come in handy in terms of personal player stats.
