So the ranking right now is:
Season 3: 4.609
Season 7: 4.445
Season 5 : 4.421
Season 6: 4.069
Season 4: 3.842
Season 8: 3.203/3.177
Season 2: 2.857
Season 1: 2.637

And honestly after that it would probably be in sequential order, but I can do all the other seasons if you want

So, S3 is the season with the highest average of the entire series

Yeah, that was when people actually watched the new episodes and didn’t need to make big promotions about them. The only reason why season 7 is so high is because a lot of the episodes premiered Saturday at 9:30am, which is where most people watched SpongeBob. Season 4 is high because of a lot of specials (probably would under s8 if all post-5m/6m eps. were removed) season 5 I think is similar, but a lot of people did watch the NEW week and hour-long premieres.

I guess NEW NEW NEW Week did so well that it was the reason why from S6 they started airing 5 episodes for 1 week at 5pm

Season 9A: 3.78m
Season 9B: 2.048m
Season 9: 2.766m - surprisingly higher than s1, I thought the amount of sub-2m eps would bring the average lower than s1, but I guess I was wrong. Though I am confident that after this it goes down in sequential order.

Yeah most of the season 4 episodes were between 2m-4m, and a lot of the Friday night premieres were usually pretty low. (for the time) For example, Enemy in Law got 2.08 million viewers, and Chimps Ahoy/Ghost Host got 2.16 million viewers (basically season 10 ratings)

also 9b viewers decline but the reviews get better at least

And it was one of the reasons why Catscratch and The X's were cancelled in 2006

So, the average of Season 10 is compared to the average of Season 4, and it was in Season 11 when the ratings started to be lower than Season 1
