Just one question, how are you getting the season 1-3 episodes in true HD quality? Not the "HD" that Nickelodeon uses nowadays?
Season 1 was remastered in 1080p so that is true HD, 2-8 are being upscaled from the best sources we are getting, we'll reveal more info once we finally finish each season and we'll show what we used for sources :)

The Season 2 color errors and Something Smells error will NOT be present on our season 2 set. Procrastination's cut scene should appear as well, as well as the Christmas Who? TV Cut :)

How would you be able to upscale it? Are you just going to resize the image to be 1080p (i wouldn't recommended doing this because it just makes bloat and takes up space) or use something like waifu2x (which in most cases could remove a lot of the detail while upscaling it, since spongebob isn't really the type of style designed for it, especially the backgrounds)

i forgot what we're using, but it's not just making the picture bigger, it's like waifu, but for videos. And so far it's looking good on our end.

Yeah I agree, I remember using waifu2x for a 3 threads in the past, (Don't look at those, they are the cringiest things I've made on this site), and I'm now realizing how much detail I was losing. All it did was make the characters look murky, make black outlines become gray, water down the brush strokes, and make the backgrounds look WAY too smooth. Waifu2x is definitely not for a show like SpongeBob, which has backgrounds and art with so much detail. The upscaler will absolutely work for old episodes of Family Guy, The Simpsons, and other shows of that style though.

I can't wait for this, I'm hyped! :D

One question, do you think that since you're using a upscaler like waifu2x, will adding noise to the frame make it look balanced, like adding noise too a frame or image that looks too smooth, or will you do something else?

It's neither smooth or rough, it's just perfect :) We've been doin' seasons 3 and 2 lately, 2 from the german disc and 3 from nick.com / DVD, trying to remove some minor haloing

Does Nick.com look good for all the seasons of SpongeBob?

Lemme rephrase that, do the SB episodes on Nick.com look higher quality than most other online sources, since it's an official site? I know that the wierd VHS effect is there for S2, but does it still look decent?

Also does the German S2 disc have the same coloring issue as the boxsets?

It's still illegal if you are giving the ISOs out for free.

It all depends. Sometimes the DVDs look better, sometimes it's Amazon, sometimes it's Nick, although the videos on nick.com have a fairly low bitrate. It also depends on which DVD release you are using (Region 1, Region 2, etc). Even the single DVDs sometimes differ in quality from the Season releases.

The German "The Complete Second Season" DVD release does have the same coloring issues as the original region 1 release. However, there were a series of German volumes that were released between 2004 & 2005 that contain the correct coloring.

Since when did they release Season 1 in HD? That probably explains the HD version of the theme song that is on the newer episodes.

Sorry for bumping the topic, but it hasnt been a full month, so I guess I'm fine. Anyway, Season 1 was released in HD on iTunes, or Amazon Video, however, Amazon has higher quality than iTunes.
