I thought maybe we could start a little game type thing here at SBM. In this topic, everyone will post their favourite theme tune(s) and we'll hopefully have a nice little discussion. Optionally you can also add some comments on why you have chosen the theme tunes you have chosen.
Then I'll post another topic where all those theme tunes are put into a poll with a link to hear them and we'll vote and see which one is the most popular.
Here are my two nominations - Cheers and The South Bank Show.
Cheers
This theme is one of my favourite because the lyrics are well written and made so they can be related to by anyone and everyone. Sometimes you wanna go where everybody knows your name. Who doesn't? The theme tune become widely known along with the programme which both became near-instant hits (the series premiere ranked 77th out of 77 shows, but it soon became the number 1 show for most of its seasons, and the finale is in the top 5 most watched finale's in America. NBC seems to have a good run with sitcoms and theme tunes. Let's not forget Friends.
The South Bank Show
For those who don't remember or even know what The South Bank Show is, The South Bank Show was the flagship arts programme on ITV from the 1970s until just a couple of years ago now. The aim of the show was to mix fine art with mainstream culture allowing everyone to enjoy and experience the fact that art wasn't just about paintings. The theme tune mixes classical with modern and is very well made for its time. I've attached my favourite opening title sequence that ever went with the theme; there were dozens over the years.
