The Smiler, Alton Towers Incident June 2nd, 2015

Always Fear
Since I felt like I really wanted to discuss this, I've decided to create a thread based on a roller coaster incident that happened on the 2nd June 2015.

For those who don't know, on that day, one of the roller coasters The Smiler which is located in the British theme park Alton Towers, had an incident where a cart with 12 people crashed into an empty cart that was sent out for testing purposes and got stuck in the batwing loops. The four passangers in the front of the car recieved leg and chest injuries, along with one of them breaking their leg. The other 8 recieved minor bruising. The passangers were eventually rescued a few hours later. It's currently unknown what the cause of the incident was, whether it was a technical issue or a human error, and so far, the park has been closed for two days and even tomorrow due to investigations.

Here's what the ride looks like.

In my opinion, I'm really saddened for the riders who were victim to the incident as really feel sorry for what happened to them. It's obvious they won't get rid of the ride since it did open two years, and keep in mind, this wasn't the first time the ride's had an accident. It also had journalists and news reporters being stuck on the lift hill during testing, the ride closing due to a piece of track falling off and some of the wheels falling on the legs of the riders.

So yeah, that's my two cents. Anyone else want to discuss this with me, even though it's from the UK and most of you are from the US.

i read that story those poor people got hurt.i also read how the roller coater has had problems in the past, you'd think they would tear down that roller coaster also the way i read it,it sounded like the roller coaster was doomed from the start.

I love roller coasters so this is really sad. They usually make them really safe but it's kinda scary that incidents like this can still happen.

Side note: I edited the date in the title, in the U.S. the date is written month first (6/2/15) so I changed it to written to avoid confusion :)

One of the few reasons why I don't ride them. Stuff like this just happens too much :(
Huh, this is the first roller coaster accident I've heard in this entire year. Compared to anything else (I'm looking at you, car) roller coasters is very safe.
