It’s strange how they were given almost complete creative freedom around that point, but were still not allowed to use movie assets.

But neptune appeared once before the movie, in Neptune's Spatula. Why would Paramount have the dispute if he was already used. Is this why Mindy doesn't appear in the actual show?
