Super Mario 3d World

I know someone who is extremely happy that the Mega Mushroom is back~

I'm not a huge gamer (more so because of money than anything), but this game has been looking really sharp lately and will probably end up on the list of games I want to play someday. (Which admittedly is pretty long.) On top of the fact that it's very nice visually and there are a boat load of entertaining power-ups, new and old, this is Peach's first playable appearance in the main series since Super Mario Bros. 2, which was also her only other playable instance through the main games.

I just a got a Wii U a few months ago and I've been looking forward to this game. I'm glad to see that Peach will actually be playable and the new power-ups look pretty interesting.

Holy fudge, this game looks amazing! =O When I heard about the game I didn't think much of it (I thought it was going to be a 3DS game. xD), but not that I've seen the trailer...I might actually want a Wii U now. :O I'm also happy that Peach is playable here and not the one being kidnapped.

And I never knew Mario could be so cute, lol x3

I can't wait to play the demo! :D

Super Mario 3D World

Platforms: Wii U

Release Date:

JP November 21, 2013

NA November 22, 2013

EU November 29, 2013

AU November 30, 2013

Eurogamer: 10/10

Compact by the standards of the Galaxy adventures but still loaded with bountiful secrets, beneath the warm familiarity of 3D World lies one of the strangest Mario games in years - or at least one of the most random in its influences and its moment-to-moment indulgences. And that's a very, very good thing.

IGN: 9.6

It fulfills the promise of a multiplayer Mario much better than anything that the Japanese game maker has done before. Super Mario 3D World is marvelous, and its constant variety and fantastic light-hearted co-op play proves that Nintendo still knows exactly how to tweak their Mario formula in fun ways.

Gamespot: 9.0

Everything that you can see and do within its enchanting levels is so bright, colourful, and full of wonder that it's impossible not to be taken in by its charms.

Edge: 9/10

This is Mario like you’ve never seen him before, and unlike so many of his next-gen rivals, he nips along at an effortless 60fps. If the true measure of new hardware’s worth is how stark the difference is between it and what came before, then this is the most next-gen game that 2013 has yet produced.

Destructoid: 10.0

It was then that I realized that Super Mario 3D World had achieved a level of platforming design that's close to perfection, and there was almost never a moment where I didn't have a smile on my face. This is the unequivocally the best Mario game since Galaxy 2, and it shows up anything the "New" series has ever done, and then some.

Joystiq: 10/10

Put simply, Super Mario 3D World is stunning. Its world is beautiful, its design is impeccable, and its fun is infectious. I'm running out of superlatives here, so let me finish where I started: Go play it.

Polygon 9/10[1]

Super Mario 3D World doesn't reinvent the Mario formula. But it is in every way its own game, with a bright, joyful aesthetic that's supported by inspired level design and a cast that matters. It gets the balance right between nostalgic touches and clever new twists, and never once let me down with a boring boss or too-familiar retread. In all my years of playing with the Mario gang, I've never been quite so happy to hurl myself into the unknown, and 3D World delivers challenge, surprise and joy in almost every moment.

Escapist 4/5[2]

Super Mario 3D World is a very good Mario game that suffers only in that the unrealized potential for it to have been a great game, period, keeps peeking in between the cracks. Fun to play for veterans and newcomers alike either as a single-player challenge or frenetic multiplayer party-brawl; and a definite must for current and prospective WiiU owners.

Official Nintendo Magazine (UK) 93/100[3]

Not so much a baby step into HD 3D platforming as a triple backflip onto a Goomba's dome. A constant source of joy, surprise and ideas, ideas, ideas.

Eurogamer Italy 9/10[4]

(Translated roughly: your next purchase on the Wii U should be this coveted treasure, as it is after Rayman Legends the best platformer.)

GameInformer 9.25/10[5]

Concept:Introduce New Super Mario-style multiplayer to the 3D Land structure
Graphics:Mario and the new Sprixie Kingdom look great in HD
Sound:The soundtrack is amazing. I can’t help but hum the music for a good hour after each session;
Playability:Essentially every Wii U controller option is supported.Be thankful you hung on to all of those Wii remotes
Entertainment:Nintendo does it again, blending novelty with nostalgia to offer some of the best couch co-op out there
Replay:Moderately High

Here I am thinking this game is some kind of stupid rip-off.....

yet everyone wants to play it? D:
Everyone at my school who knows about the game thinks it's a stupid ripoff except me. Peach isn't getting kiddnapped, they're adding a bunch of new level elements, and much more creativity. I'll see how it plays out..

At least it got good ratings. I just hope it helps Wii U sales since the console desperately needs it. Other than that, I'll probably get it if I ever buy a Wii U, I'm sure it lives to its promise.

I must say, this game incredibly exceeded my expectations so far.

Now before anything else, I just need to let this out. THIS IS THE FIRST TIME SINCE 1988 WHERE PRINCESS PEACH ISN'T THE DAMSEL IN DISTRESS! To be completely honest with you, this thing is refreshing enough to give the game at least 3 stars. :P It's nice to see Nintendo make up a completely new plot for once, I enjoy that. Hell, you can even PLAY as Peach, and she helps save the damsel. I have a hard time understanding what is not to like in that situation! :O

The power-ups have potential that exceeded my expectations. I've never seen anything like Cat Mario, the Cherries, or the Bullet Shooter thing. (I just got this game so of course I don't know the names lol) I enjoy the creative possibilities used to get green stars in the levels with Cat Mario, or with the Double Character cherry things. The green stars, for the most part, are also hidden in some creative places, however, I wish they were a bit harder to find.

The level design is AMAZING, definitely blowing Super Mario 3D Land out of the water. Super Mario 3D Land had wonderful level design in the first part, but the special world got far too lazy and just re-used older levels. It was neat to see the interactive world maps as well, practically a mash-up between the New Super Mario Bros. map hub and the Super Mario 64 separate world hub. I only wish the maps had more to explore, as I'm sure potential green stars could have been creatively hidden in the maps somehow.

If there's one last thing I have to say, it's the references. I'm glad, that for once, years and years later, Super Mario USA (SMB2) finally gets some reference in the series. Music remixes, 4-characters, lottery on the world map, etc. I've had enough of Super Mario Bros. 1, 3, and original 2 and World, it's about time USA 2 gets some love, regardless of the negative opinions that you may harbor towards the game. Now, I'm just waiting for Sunshine to have more than A galaxy in Super Mario Galaxy 2.... ahh well. *SPOILER ALERT* Speaking of Super Mario Galaxy, *SPOILER ALERT LAST CHANCE*, Lumas appear in the bonus worlds and you can actually PLAY as ROSALINA once you beat level Star-2. That's an interesting thing to see, as I love Lumas. <3

I can't say there's too many, if any negatives about this game. The only bone I have to pick is that they still adopted to the usual Mountain, Ice, Water, Normal, Desert, Mountain, and Bowser worlds instead of going out of their way to make a new product. One thing I loved about Super Mario World, Super Mario 2 (USA), and Super Mario Sunshine is their deviation from the normal Mario formula. When that happens, it tends to become one of my favorite games of all time. (those three mentioned are my favorite mario games of all time, Sunshine>World>2(USA) and my favorite Zelda game is Majora's Mask, go figure) I'd really like to see a Mario-style game in a different environment. This game is a step closer to that though, and I hope Nintendo doesn't make another "New Super Mario Bros" just to get more goddarned money. @_@

Overall, this game is excellent. I can't give it less than a 9/10! :D

Stupid rip-off, eh. Omair got on the nose. Greatest game I've played since 2010.

The trailers don't give this game justice. When I first saw the trailers, it looked just like a rip-off. They never showed the MARIO KART THROWBACK, or the cool creatively hidden stars, or the cool powerups, or the cool world maps in detail in the trailers. It looked like a hack of 3DLand.... but when the game was actually played by me, I realized, this was wonderful. The level design is just as innovative as Galaxy and Sunshine, yet this doesn't have very many gimmicks to play with!

If there's any good reason to buy a Wii U, this could be one. :P

Also, I should mention, I'm glad to see original music for once. This is the first time in 2 years to see an original soundtrack.

All these good reviews makes me want this even more, but there's a slim chance of us getting a Wii U and I'm already trying to get a 3DS...arrgh....Dx I hope there will actually be a demo so I can at least play that....

It's absolutely worth getting a Wii U just for this game. It is absolutely innovative, and every level is filled with jam-packed fun. At some points of the game, it doesn't even feel like a Mario game due to how innovative it can get! They really went all-out with the level design here.

*SPOILER ALERT*

They even referenced a spin-off, Mario Kart, the first one specifically.
