Ohmygodimonfire.
Summer movies are over, and here are the results!

In May, it was a box office showdown between three three-quels, Spider-Man 3, Shrek the Third, and Pirates of the Carribbean : At World's End. Spider-Man 3 came on top with $336,530,303. Shrek came in second with $321,012,359. And the Pirates sunk to last place with $308,289,672. What's dissapointing is that Spider-Man is the least grossing movie out of all three movies. When it came to critics, it was not so good either. Spider-Man 3 is 61% at RT (rottentomatoes.com). Even though SM3 is still fresh, the first one had 90%, and the second has 93% and is known as the best reviewed comic book movie of all time (and if you're wondering about Garfield, Garfield fans...not even close :P). Shrek the Third did not do so well with critics either. The movie is only at 42%, while the first is at 89% and the second is at 88%. Pirates was barely any better at 45%. The first Pirates is at 79% while the second is at an average 54%.

In June, the summer of movies was just getting started. It began with Knocked Up, which did very well with critics with 93% at RT and made some R-rated box office records and has grossed $148,127,000. Danny Ocean and the Fantastic Four were back to sizzle the box office with some summer heat. Ocean's Thirteen grossed $116,879,703 and is at 69% at RT. Rise of the Silver Surfer grossed $131,385,634, but is at 36% at RT. Well...let's not forget one other character who returned to the big screen and he did not return in 12 years until on June 27. His name is John McClane. The fourth Die Hard film entitled, "Live Free or Die Hard" grossed $133,105,328 and is at 80% at RT. Ratatouille, annother hit from Pixar, has so far grossed $200,726,000 and is at 96% at RT. It is known as one of the best reviewed films of the year.

In July, things started heating up with a whole bunch of blockbuster hits. Transformers broke box office records and already grossed more than Pirates 3 with $310,180,000. The movie was so sucessful, the movie will be come back on the IMAX screen on September 21. The film did not do too bad with critics, and is at 57% at RT. On July 11, Harry Potter came back to the big screen for his 5th appearance in Harry Potter and the Order of Phoenix. The film was the worst reviewed film out of all of them (76% at RT), but that did not mean it was a bad movie. The film is also the 3rd best grossing movie with $286,135,000 so far. I Now Pronounce You Chuck and Larry and Hairspray were released the next week. Critics did not enjoy Chuck and Larry (14% at RT), but is doing a good job at the box office with $116,298,000 so far. Hairspray was loved by critics (93% at RT) and has made $111,551,000 so far. The Simpsons Movie lived up to expectations with $177,696,000 so far and is at 88% at RT.

In August, the last of summer movies began. The Bourne Ultimatium hit theaters and did well with critics and is at 93% at RT. The film is doing very well at the box office with $199,734,000 so far and is about to go for $200 million. Rush Hour 3 did not do so well with critics (20% at RT) but is doing a fine job at the box office with $120,416,000 so far. It needs to gross $20 million more to pay off the budget. The next week came Superbad, which also made R-rated box office records like Knocked Up and has $89,335,000 so far. Critics also enjoyed the movie and is at 88% at RT. The next week were some so-so flicks. Out of all the new flicks that week, the sequel, Mr. Bean's Holiday made the most money out of all of them. It has so far grossed $18,992,000 and did an average job with critics (51% at RT). The film that ended the summer with a boom was a movie that was about a holiday...that did not even come during the summer. Halloween did very well this Labor Day weekend and made Labor Day weekend box office records. The film has grossed $26,462,000 so far but did not do so well with critics (22% at RT). Yet, there was still another film that also ended the summer with it. That film was Balls of Fury. The film is not doing bad at the box office ($14,307,000 so far), but it also did not do so well with critics (26% at RT).

So in the end, these are the flicks I recommend are:

Ratatouille
Live Free or Die Hard
Transformers
Hairspray
The Simpsons Movie
Superbad

You want my reviews. :P

Spider-Man 3 -- A third installment in the popular Spider-Man series, Spider-Man 3 didn't quite live up to much of its hype. Although it was a decent film, it just couldn't compare to the first two. For special effects, it by far surpassed the first 2, but its lack of a decent plot slowed it down a bit. Venom could've had a bigger role, and I wish they'd depicted his voice as it was described in the comics instead of just Topher Grace's voice. Overall, it was a good movie, one I'd buy on DVD just to complete my collection. I'd see it a few more times as well. :O

What seemed to kill the movie for me ultimately though, was the fact that the servant in Harry's house had kept the secret of the Goblin to himself for so long. He knows Harry's in a pickle, and he still never says Norman killed himself? That was just not believable to me.

86/100, B+

Pirates of the Caribbean: at World's End -- The third Pirates movie also didn't quite live up to expectations, although was admittedly better than its predecessor, Dead Man's Chest. At times, it seemed to drag on, and those portions of the film would've been better off cut. Portions of the film I'm talking about are: the entire 'Davy Jones' Locker' scene and the 'Calypso Gets Big' scene. It just didn't catch my attention. Here's something I would've preferred in place of Davy Jones' Locker...

Jack appears all of a sudden while the crew is attempting to go to 'the end of the world' and they ask how he survived. He says, "Sea turtles, mate." Then, it spares them the trouble of going deeper into the whole 'far-fetched plot' thing, adds a little humor to the film that Pirates is known for, and makes Jack seem more like the hero he's supposed to be portrayed as. The giant Calypso thing could've just been left out entirely.

On the upside, the battle scene at the end was so intense, I couldn't peel my eyes away from the screen. That scene pretty much saved the movie.

Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer -- Better than the first one. More action. Better plot. Just more fun to watch than the first one. Probably should've gotten a PG-13 rating, but the MPAA's a bunch of idiots. It was good.

84/100, B

Live Free or Die Hard -- Funny, jam-packed with action from beginning to end, and overall good. :)

85/100, B

Transformers -- Now, I've said it before, and I'll say it again. Transformers was the best movie all summer. The special effects were top-notch and never failed to catch my eye, the plot wasn't lacking any space, and although its runtime was 2 hours, 30 minutes, I wasn't bored for a second. The action was relentless and unfaltering, and once again, the massive battle at the end of the movie absolutely held my attention to a degree where I couldn't tear my eyes from the screen.

The jokes were hilarious, and though some of the sexual puns were a little too much, it provided a bit of comic relief before the action really began.

A few downsides were than during the end battle scene at parts it was difficult to tell the Autobots from the Decepticons, but only for a small amount of time. You forget some of the robots' names, but that doesn't matter, as the real star of the show was Optimus Prime. :P

The special effects were dazzling, and how each and every detail put into each Transformer moved and changed as they transformed was incredible. Explosions weren't too plenty, but not too little, and were handled nicely.

The story wasn't lacking anything, and there were no holes I could find. It also brought to the front of my mind that the government sometimes keeps secrets from us. Simply put, it's a movie I can watch over and over again.

Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix -- Although it got nasty ratings, in my opinion it was the best Harry Potter yet. They left a lot out from the movie that was in the book, and I'm actually glad for that. If they'd put the whole book in movie form, it would be like 5 hours, and most of it would bore me to an extent not yet known to mankind. It's good for reading, but in movies, try not t exceed 3 hours. They did good on this one. The special effects were very good as well. :)

I Now Pronounce You Chuck and Larry -- Hilarious, Kevin James is so funny. Though it was funny, I probably wouldn't laugh a second time.

70/100, C-

There ya go. Every movie I saw this summer. Feel free to critique my criticisms. :P

my other favorites were Nancy Drew,Underdog,Evan Almighty,Ratatouille, and Surf's Up.

Nancy Drew was a really good movie,on the TV commercials it looks like an average chick-flick but it really isn't! it's a really amazing mysterious movie! I couldn't stop looking at the screen,I don't think I blinked an eye! it was a good moment!

when I went to see Shrek the Third,I was laughing watching the movie from beginning to end.
I even rofl'd at the part when they changed the store sign from "Bootery" to "Hooter's". :P

I am kind of interested in seeing Live Free or Die Hard but I haven't seen the first 3.

You don't really need to see the first 3. I didn't even know it was part 4 until I read the article in the paper that said "Live Free or Die Hard a.k.a. Die Hard 4."
Really, you should go see it. It's good. ^_~

I saw plenty of movies during summber, but my favorite was transformers.

I've been tracking rush hour 3, it will make it's budget.
