This is not a complaint about the show by itself

Rather this is my analysis of a MUCH bigger problem with the entire television landscape which SpongeBob SquarePants is a part of

People aren't supporting enough new IPs and it's hurting creativity

SpongeBob is only a small part of the overall issue but by no means is the root cause!

My question is:

Why have we stopped supporting new ideas in favor of established franchises?

Because TV networks have loved playing it safe these past couple years. If I were to sell an idea to Nick, CN, etc. these days under the pretence that it’s “taking risks”, it’d be rejected.

Yeah, no TV network company takes risks these days knowing that cable's on its way out. It's sad, but it's just the way things are.
