So, I got these from some comment (he/she said It was taken from We're not just Cartoon: Nicktoon! book) on Lost Media Wiki about SpongeBob 1997 Pilot:

From the text on the right in Picture 2:
The Rough Storyboards for the "Sponge Boy Pilot", drawn in pencil on Post-It Stickies. The pilot was developed by Hillenburg, Writer and Storyboard artist Derek Drymon, Writer Tim Hill, and Art Director Nick Jennings.

As we can see, Gary is supposed to eat some cactus (?) and Patrick seeing Spongebob scene has different camera angle.....

what do you think, guys?

It probably was there just to show his one character trait at the time (gluttony). He'd probably eat anything in the original draft.

Quite an interesting scrapped idea, Gary eating cacti. It definitely feels like a Rocko gag due to its absurdity.
