SpongeBob season 4 (and 5) are becoming classic?

Lately I've been seeing people lump season 4 in with the golden ages (seasons 1-3). Season 4 was the first post-movie season, and did not feel like a "modern" season. Season 4 aired over 10 years ago now. Is this why I've been seeing season 4 lumped in with seasons 1-3?

The thing is, season 4 is not as good as seasons 1-3. This is why I am confused at it being lumped in with the classic seasons.

Season 5 for me seems like the first full-on modern season, but even THAT is starting to be lumped in with the classic seasons now. Just because it's the last season to not be utterly horrible.

So do you think seasons 4 and 5 are becoming classic seasons? And will seasons 6, 7 etc eventually become like this?

I was in preschool when season 4 first aired. I'm a sophomore in high school right now. So it deserves to be called a classic season.

Season 4 aired when I was in first grade. I find it very hard to call that a modern episode when I look to times after first grade with lots of nostalgia.

Yeah, they're classic enough because of how long it've been. I was one when FOAKP aired.

They're not classic, but they're old enough that people have nostalgia for them.
I hope to see you in 2025! :hiya:

Season 5 just has that very new-SpongeBob vibe to it, I don't think it can ever be classic. Especially with episodes like To Love a Patty.

That being said, Krabs a la Mode literally feels like a season 2 episode. Whilst there are some good episodes like Roller Cowards, they still have a very modern feel to it.

Hopefully yeah, the current generation of fans actually grew up with late season 3 to season 5. Meanwhile those people who grew up with season 1-3 are pretty old right now and are different from the current fans. So yeah I would consider season 4 and 5 to be classic by now.

Didn't we just have this thread? You can call them classic but don't lump them into season 1-3 which have a markedly different animation style(s) and voices.

Season 4 is especially closer to the old style of Spongebob, and the episodes are better than the newer ones in general. I'm not sure about Season 5 being classic, but Season 4 is close enough.

I think Krabs a la Mode feels like a Season 5 epiosde. Feeling like a post-movie episode isn't a bad thing by default...

You think? I see it has some season 5 feel to it but for the most part it's a pre-movie for me.

I mean don't get me wrong it was very pre-movie quality but if I were to watch it blind, I would easily be able to guess itwas a post-movie as it has that post-movie charm. By that I mean there aren't that many quotes persay but lots of memorable moments and plot development,
In many ways, it's like a Season 1 too b ytaking a simple concept and blowing it up.

hmm... i don't know, spongebob.....

I think the reason people have been lumping season 5 with the classics is because that season has some really good episodes. It's difficult to deny. Season 4 & 5 are pretty much neck in neck with the quality of the good episodes, but I think season 5 fares a bit better in that department. I think the reason a lot of people hate season 5 is because the bad episodes were worse than season 4, and I think people tend to remember those episodes more than the good ones. Going back through season 5, I've come to discover a lot of gems in that season, and thus I became more open-minded towards it.

Maybe I'm being too fair on season 5, but I would lump it in the same boat as season 4, regardless if the overall charm of the show has changed at that point.

Season 4 is a lot more consistent overall when it comes to quality, in my opinion. That's what gives season 4 the edge over 5, for me.

This reminds me of certain people actually thinking that The Simpsons' Scully era are part of the classic era (though seasons 11 and 12 are debatable). Honestly, as a fan, I see Seasons 4 and 5 still part of SpongeBob's golden age. Seasons 6 and 7 are dark ages for me. Seasons 8 and 9 are the Renaissance.

Seasons 1-5 are classic and the golden age of SpongeBob.

Seasons 6-7 are a bit of a low point, still filled with some fantastic episodes. Will become classic in a couple of years. I'm almost sure that you'll be watching an episode like "The Splinter" or "Sand Castles In The Sand" in 10 years from now and have some nostalgia whether the episode is bad or good.

Seasons 8-9 are fantastic seasons with great and new ideas. Like the renaissance. Again, these will become more classic, the older they get because you'll have more memories from them, despite being good or bad.

Sorry, I know you asked for seasons 4 and 5, but just thought I'd share my opinion on all the seasons :P

Season 4 is a classic for me because I really wanted to see new episodes of this show and I wasn't disappointed for most part. As for season 5, no because season 5 feels like a mix of season 4 and season 6.

Season 1 was different from season 2 and 3 actually. Season 1 was more calm, the animation was different and voice acting was old but really charming.
