What is up with Man Ray's color palette? In every post-movie episode he appears in, the shadows on the red part of his suit are this weird light shade of red that makes them not look like shadows. He is so brightly colored, even compared to the rest of the characters his palette is unusually bright. It's just a small nitpick but it's always kinda bothered me.

The colors in post-movie episodes, in general, are pretty dang garish and ugly.

Here's a screenshot from season 3, which was arguably very consistent with its coloring

Here's one from season 9... which looks incredibly over-saturated. What, like the original colors weren't bright and garish enough to capture the kid's attention?

No because we're Nickelodeon! The only place that refuses to evolve because we "know what the kids want"! We'll even make things brighter! If Power Rangers can pull it off, why can't Spongebob?!

At least, that's how I imagine their reasoning behind it. :P

The backgrounds should be less bright in comparison to the bright characters.

otherwise the bright characters blend in with the bright background

They say the show has had bright coloring since season 4, but arguably the only season that's truly bright is season 9.
Watching it in Nick HD is even worse.

Yeah, I noticed this before. Someone messed up when making the palettes. If you look at the color values in a photo editor, you can see that the red gets darker, but the green and blue are randomly increased, causing a brighter color overall. Probably from someone not being careful enough sliding down the color wheel, would be my guess. Hopefully they fix this in the future.

I don't get why swimming to HD would mean brighter colors, Season 9.1 kinda has scary-looking HD animation, with its cancer-inducing bright colors. Seasons 1-8 have a "healthier" look with their darker colors.

This. TBH I know I'll get flamed for this but I don't like season 1-3 colors- something seems overly dark and...musty about them.
