That's right, SpongeBob SquarePants will be renewed for a ninth season, with season 8 still yet to premiere.

Cable TV's top animated show "SpongeBob SquarePants" has been renewed for a ninth season on Nickelodeon, Deadline reported Monday.

The series will hit the momentous 200-show mark in the season that will air in 2012.

The show has consistently ranked as television's number one animated series for children aged two to 11, and on cable it is the number one animated show in terms of total viewers.

"We never imagined we would be on for that long but we're going to keep going," the show's creator Stephen Hillenburg said.

"The trick is to try to keep the episodes funny and simple and press from there," he added.

Awesome! :)

Patchy: I can't believe it, more SpongeBob!

This show should stop at season 10. Just to make it to 10 seasons.

I have these hopes for the final season:

-It goes back to what Season 3 was like
-Mr Hillenburg comes back to full-time work on the show
-It goes back to what Season 3 was like
-The writers of the pre-movie seasons come back and they get rid of the writers from these later series
-It goes back to what Season 3 was like
-I actually will enjoy it
-It goes back to what Season 3 was like
-They go out with a bang, having really top-notch episodes and only one special instead of the dozens we have nowadays
-And most importantly, it goes back to what Season 3 was like

Nickelodeon has renewed the hit animated series SpongeBob SquarePants for a ninth season today, which will begin airing in 2012. The 26-episode order will drive the series past the 200 episode milestone.

SpongeBob SquarePants, which started airing on Nickelodeon in 1999, has been the top-rated children's series for the past 10 years in the ages 2-11 demographic. It also ranks as basic cable's top animated show in total viewers, with the series airing in over 171 territories worldwide. Here's what executive producer and showrunner Paul Tibbitt had to say about the announcement:

We never imagined we would be on for that long but we're going to keep going. The trick is to try to keep the episodes funny and simple and press from there."

Stephen Hillenburg created the series and Paul Tibbitt took over the day-to-day responsibilities after the third season. SpongeBob SquarePants will air its latest animated special, The Legend of Bikini Bottom on January 28.

Looks like SpongeBob will continue on, despite of rumors ;)

I think it's great! ;)
I wonder if they will do anything special for the 200th episode? That's a huge landmark for a cartoon.

As long as the people still working on it enjoy it and aren't just doing this for the money, or just to get to a milestone, I guess I'm for it... <_<
