And I didn't even see the whole thing.
I was in San Diego a couple days ago, and while I was in a hotel, I was looking for something to watch. SpongeBob was on. Wanted to check out what episode it was. It was this one.
For once, in a very long time, I actually laughed at a new episode. For once, in a very long time, the writers didn't make any elaborate changes. For once, I bear 11 minutes of something different from this cartoon! How come they weren't making episodes like this in the first place?!?!
We finally get some clever jokes out of these guys. The writers show their potential by not trying to back out from pleasing the hardcore fans. They actually invent a plot in which SpongeBob and Patrick can get into with zany results.
The episode doesn't even look like a post-movie episode. When I first saw it, I couldn't even tell if it was new or old. The episode doesn't have the typicaly post-movie flaws, either. The voice acting hasn't been this great since the movie. The jokes aren't rehashed or borrowed from other shows. Although we get the typical different soundtrack, it actually works with the episode.
Sadly, I didn't get to see the whole thing, but you can't imagine how happy I was with what I saw. If only they could strike gold like this again...
