While last night's Level-5 "Next Dimension" press conference was filled to the brim with new tidbits on Professor Layton and the Mask of Miracle, Ni no Kuni, and their newest game Time Travelers, the most exciting and shocking announcement was that of a brand new title for Nintendo 3DS: Professor Layton vs. Phoenix Wright to be jointly developed by Level-5 and Capcom. Yes, you read that last line correctly. The game is a Layton and Phoenix Wright crossover.
Aside from the trailer above, very few details on the game were announced. The only solid details mentioned were that the game is a "combination of puzzles and a crime mystery", that the two characters will be working together (despite the title including a "Vs.", and that Ace Attorney creator Takumi Shu will be writing the scenario. When speaking on the story, Shu mentioned "Majo Saiban", or a "Witch Trial", as the central theme of the game.
Also, the game is set in Labyrinth City. The background is medieval, and the city is populated with witches. The villain is named the "story teller" and whatever he writes with his pen becomes reality.
