Border Run by The Surfdusters is a personal favorite of mine.

I like most of the cheesy 50s-60s Hawaiian music they played in the earlier seasons too. It really adds to that charm and atmosphere they had. The weird xylophone music they have nowadays isn't the same :(

Border Run by The Surfdusters is a personal favorite of mine.

I like most of the cheesy 50s-60s Hawaiian music they played in the earlier seasons too. It really adds to that charm and atmosphere they had. The weird xylophone music they have nowadays isn't the same :(

It's becoming very hard to aquire the arrangements of Hawaiian traditional tunes from APM Music. It's not as easy as in, say, 2007. Starting from 2009, the policy became very strict. So they can't use traditional sea shanties or traditional Hawaiian tunes as regularly as before.
LoveCat Music, the owner of the surf tracks, doesn't allow Nickelodeon to use their music in SpongeBob now because their 10-year contract expired, and getting a new one is much harder and expensive than in 1999.
So, yeah. There are many reasons for SpongeBob's composers using their original tracks now.
