My gender has never had anything to do with the fact I love video games. Sure I've always been treated differently because being a "gamer girl" was extremely rare back in the day (before it became cool and everyone started being like, OMG I HEART NERDS!!!11!lol) but it never kept me away from my favorite hobby.
Unfortunately, the gaming community is breeding ground for sexism just because of the lack of femininity in it.
And while I agree with some games being blatantly sexist, its also a very tough subject to debate on. Gaming is definitely labelled as more of a 'guy thing' because a huge chunk of the games out there revolve around war and guns and cars and beautiful women... things that guys are ***supposed to*** like. Well, not all guys like My Little Pony, but look at this wave of people who are breaking gender stereotypes and liking something completely out of the norm for their gender. There are definitely a lot more girls into gaming then we know, we just don't meet them online in games like COD... because turning on that mic is basically asking for remarks about being a girl, or asking to meet a creep waiting to make their next move. Guys may argue this, but I've experienced it first hand, online and working at EB Games for almost 3 years.
I think as more and more girls start playing or even creating games, the problem will slowly get better. More guys are also opening their eyes and seeing that being sexist isn't cool. It should be interesting to see where this topic goes in the future.
