Is Nickelodeon trying to promote SpongeBob to preschoolers?

So many things suggest this such as:

-Airing the show immediately before Nick Jr. on weekdays
-Originally rating it as TV-Y
-Having SpongeBob with preschool characters like Dora and PAW Patrol at events

etc

Do you think I'm right?

I think that it's just about Spongebob having a strong following from a young demographic, ages 2-11. It's not uncommon for ordinary kids shows to be promoted alongside young kids shows.

It is trying to appeal to younger people, however I don't think preschoolers, maybe elementary schoolers perhaps. I think this, because of the overall humor and aesthetic they're going for in seasons 11 and 12 so far. Also, you do bring up a good point that it is right before nick jr airs, but to be fair it's airing whenever Nick Jr isn't airing, ata ll times lol

SpongeBob has a natural appeal and audience of preschoolers, so Nick has marketed to them a few times.

The Step Into Reading books, at level 2, are directly aimed at kids 4 to 6.

Little Golden Book also skews quite young, with the recommended ages on Amazon being 3-7 years.

There are also a number of LeapFrog games and books associated with the series, which are popular with preschoolers.

A bit, in the Philippines SpongeBob is airing from Nick from 6 to 7. While at Yey! it's at 10 to 11. That's just the morning schedule.
