I just thought of this- in the episode Hooky, SpongeBob and Patrick both play with hooks even though Mr. Krabs warns them not to. However, SpongeBob ignores him, which prompts Mr. Krabs and Squidward to use a hook to scare SpongeBob into thinking he has been hooked. SpongeBob thinks he is actually hooked by a fisherman, and does anything he could to try to escape the hook, but ends up landing naked on the Krusty Krab door in front of Pearl, causing him to get embarrassed and run all the way back to his home.

But did Mr. Krabs and Squidward do the right thing in scaring SpongeBob out of playing with hooks, or was it too hurtful to SpongeBob and there could have been a better way instead?

He taught him a valuable lesson.

Now, the humiliation bit is something worth discussing. Poor lad had his fully naked body exposed to a bunch of young girls. How embarrassing!

The sentiment was there, Sponge was taught a good lesson, although he might have gone a bit overboard.
