Decided to rank the MM&BB episodes in the order of how much I like them. Just because. Tell me what you think.
DISCLAIMER: If you don't see an episode here on the list, it's because I haven't actually seen the episode yet.
1) Mermaid Man & Barnacle Boy 2 (Season 1)
The second MM&BB episode is my favorite. It's far from the funniest, but it's certainly the most adorable and sweet. And I'm a sucker for ::dolphin noise:: like that. The episode centers on the child-like desire that many people have to spend time with their heroes. And it's freaking adorable. My favorite moment in this episode is when Mermaid Man comforts Spongebob and gives him a pep talk after he accidentally abuses the power of the conch signal. In this episode Mermaid Man is more than just a senile running gag; he has a heart. "You know... for a pain in the neck, he's a pretty nice kid!"
2) Mermaid Man & Barnacle Boy: The Motion Picture (Season 4)
Bet you didn't expect me to put a post-movie episode as my second favorite! This particular episodes is a standout to me. It's probably the single funniest Mermaid Man & Barnacle Boy episode. Possibly one of the funniest episodes of the entire series. All of the jokes fall into place perfectly. It's hysterical.
3) Mermaid Man & Barnacle Boy 1 (Season 1)
I'm very fond of the first Mermaid Man & Barnacle Boy episode. It's very slow-paced, and most of it is just Spongebob and Patrick pretending to be superheroes, but there's something very goofy and charming about it.
4) Mermaid Man & Barnacle Boy 4 (Season 3)
"AND HERE COMES A GIANT FIST!!!" The episode where Spongebob abuses the power of Mermaid Man's belt is one of the funniest episodes I can think of off the top of my head, It's weird, surreal... and strangely identifiable. We've all been in situations when we had to keep a terrible secret and it kept getting more and more out of control. Spongebob screws up- badly- but we still feel for him.
5) Mermaid Man & Barnacle Boy 3 (Season 2)
Manray is one of the most memorable one-shot characters in the show so far. He's very theatrical and fun to watch, and the jokes work really well. My favorite scene in the episode is when Patrick keeps accidentally dropping the heavy box on Manray's foot. I don't know why, but I cry laughing every time I see that scene.
6) Mermaid Man Begins (Season 8)
I have only seen this episode once, but there's one scene I remember very clearly. It's the scene in which the narrator recounts this incredibly long-winded backstory of Mermaid Man & Barnacle Boy, which becomes more and more outlandish as it progresses. This episode was amazingly funny and I love it. I recall laughing a LOT when I saw it.
7) Mermaid Man & Barnacle Boy 5 (Season 3)
I'm not really a fan of this episode. The pacing is clunky, a lot of the jokes fall flat for me, etc. However, it still manages to somehow have better pacing and do the "characters become superheroes" plot in 11 minutes than Sponge out of Water did in one hour, so kudos to them. I like Barnacle Boy's plot/character arc in this episode, too. I feel like this episode could have done a bit more with the concepts it used.
