I will finish my Top 10 Silliest Spongebob Episodes, but I want to make this list as well.

You all know how Spongebob is a silly, happy show about a sweet yellow sponge? Where everything is so innocent and cute? Well, hidden inside this show are episodes that are… well, not so innocent and cute. As a Halloween Themed List, I decided to make a countdown describing what I feel are the ten creepiest, darkest episodes to have ever hit the air (and go past the censors). Enjoy!

To start this list, we have Squidbob Tentaclepants. It begins with Squidward waking up from a good dream, to go to work once again. But there’s an occasion for him; he’s going to play his clarinet at the Bikini Bottom recital tomorrow. Meanwhile, Spongebob passes by Sandy, who is messing with another one of her doohickeys, and he wants to know what it is. It appears that Sandy is making a teleporter machine, and it’s in the testing phase. Since Spongebob is now late for work, and since Sandy wants to try the machine on a living being, she tests the device on Spongebob, and let me tell you, it’s pretty wacky, as when he gets teleported to the Krusty Krab, this happens!

http://www.sbmania.net/pictures.php?img=FxNF%2FM4xCllH%2BtW9hqmLghWujN0rkUN6dWAAOs8DKFI%3D

Suddenly, the machine malfunctions, teleporting BOTH Squidward and Spongebob back, transforming them into, well… THIS!

http://www.sbmania.net/pictures.php?img=C5iNvv%2FUAkdnhnS3Wtg6htZoZ2w3L3u%2F2QKOyhDbwRY%3D

And because Squidward has to go to a recital tomorrow, he asks Sandy to do something to separate them. And she promises to make another machine to do so, but it will take a while. And during this time, Squidward and Spongebob can’t do any of their daily things properly because of their disturbing condition.

This kind of thing happens until they arrive at the recital the next day. At the clarinet performance, Squidward is wondering where Sandy is. He thinks about giving up, but SpongeBob tells him this is his big chance to be a star. Squidward comes out behind the curtain, in a cloak (to hide Spongebob). He plays the clarinet, but then accidentally tears the cloak off on a nail. After staring at Spongebob and Squidward in surprise, the audience starts cheering for both of them, giving Squidward a happy sensation. Things go well for them until Sandy shows up with her new machine. Squidward tries to tell her not to zap them with her “molecular separator ray”, but she does zap them, separating them. This displeases the crowd, and when Squidward tries to play his clarinet anyways, the crowd leaves Spongebob, Sandy, and Squidward in disgust. And Squidward tries to reverse this with the machine, but after messing with the buttons, he becomes horribly misshapen, fused, and deformed with Sandy, Spongebob, Mr. Krabs, Pearl, and most likely everyone else in the crowd.

:squidx: : It all started… when I was born.

While the premise of the episode is not exactly dark, the idea is a little disturbing, the way Spongebob and Squidward are fused together is really creepy (if you think about it) and the last scene is abominable and disturbing. (which I like a little) Heck, that last scene is deleted in some countries because it was deemed too disturbing! If you thought this episode was creepy, just wait until you see the next few contendors!

Time for a double whammy!

Some people may find this episode pretty wacky and silly, but is it really?

It begins with Squidward trying to play his clarinet, when Spongebob and Patrick arrive, asking him if he wants to go jellyfishing. He tries to constantly say no to them, but they still want him to join them. After getting fed up with them, Squidward runs to the Krusty Krab (which is closed) and tries to hide in the freezer.

Spongebob and Patrick try to find him at the Krusty Krab, but to no avail. And once Squidward sees that they’re both gone, he tries to open the freezer door, only to find that it’s frozen!

Squidward: Oh, well, someone will realize I'm gone and come looking for me. I'll be out of here in no time.

This is him now.

And this is him 2,000 years later!

SpongeTron, a descendant of SpongeBob, passes by the freezer and finally discovers Squidward after a hinge snaps off and the door breaks down. After being defrosted by SpongeTron, Squidward finds out that everything in the future (except for people) is made entirely of chrome, and all organic life forms that aren't people (such as seaweed or kelp) are simply spray-painted chrome. Squidward asks to get out of the future, so Spongetron leads him to a time machine.

Wait, that’s the can opener. My bad. THIS is the time machine!

http://www.sbmania.net/pictures.php?img=3qg%2F0jO%2Fer7N4zrFCqkXGGoPJKnlra%2B9SIrZc8dpLxk%3D

Squidward tries to figure out the machine, and upon pulling a lever, he is taken WAAAY back into the past, in the prehistoric times! Here, he meets the primitive ancestors of SpongeBob and Patrick, who are torturing themselves with a jellyfish. Squidward introduces jellyfishing to them, and they seem to be happy until Squidward starts playing his clarinet, driving them crazy, causing them to chase after him.

Fortunately, Squidward is able to get into the time machine before the beasts can get to him, and he tries to pull the lever again, accidentally breaking it. Because of this, the machine malfunctions, and after taking Squidward through many weird dimensions, brings him to a blank white void of nothingness. He remarks to himself that he can finally be alone... which is when the word manifests itself as a colorful caption. Then a series of disembodied voices start saying the word "alone", accompanied by more colorful representations of the word, until Squidward finally snaps and tries to get out.

Am I the only one who sees what’s so creepy rather than silly about that? Squidward is now trapped in a void, far away from everyone else, in another dimension, where he is all alone, and he could be trapped in the blank white void, alone, for ALL eternity, as he slowly goes insane, haunted by the fact that no one is with him… No one can see him… No one can hear him…

Anyways, Squidward tries to get out and he eventually lands back in the time machine. He returns to the present, and once he gets back to Bikini Bottom, he says how happy he is to be back. But once Spongebob and Patrick ask him, yet again, if he wants to go Jellyfishing, he finds out that HE is the one that invented the game!

· Squidward: Who's the barnacle head who invented that game anyway?
· SpongeBob & Patrick: You are, Squidward! [SpongeBob & Patrick laugh]
· Squidward: Going back.

Oh yeah, this episode has another case of Fridge Horror. Squidward is in the freezer for 2000 years, and then he gets sent back to the past, and eventually to his own time. Fair enough, right? But then you realize that there are now two Squidwards; the one that returned to the present, and the other which is still STUCK INSIDE THE KRUSTY KRAB'S FREEZER. Presumably it never gets discovered, hence why Squidward isn't freed for 2000 years, which essentially means that after that episode, there's a frozen replica of Squidward inside the freezer. And what makes it even creepier is that nobody even notices the frozen body…

If Can You Spare A Dime and Shanghaied were thrown into a blender, this would be the horrifying result that comes out of the process.

After The Flying Dutchman's ship breaks down (after crashing into a rock), The Flying Dutchman decides to take up residence at SpongeBob's house, at least until his ship is fixed. SpongeBob gets scared and goes to Squidward for help, but unfortunately, he doesn't believe in ghosts. So he slams the door in SpongeBob's face, so he soon turns to Patrick to help, but he just closes his door in fear. So, while the Dutchman makes himself at home, he proceeds to frighten Spongebob with disturbing, grotesque, and horrifying pranks. What kind you ask? Well, let’s see:

But, as the Dutchman keeps trying to scare Spongebob, Spongebob starts to get less and less afraid of him, which causes the Dutchman to lose his confidence. Even this doesn’t scare Spongebob!

spongebobacid18858005.gif

Even if I wasn’t so scared of the Dutchman anymore, that right there would’ve at least startled me! Anyways, Spongebob tries to rebuild the Flying Dutchman’s confidence by having him scare the other people of Bikini Bottom. But all his attempts fail. The Flying Dutchman decides to give up since maybe people don't believe in ghosts anymore. This gives SpongeBob an idea. He tells the Dutchman to try to scare Squidward, since he doesn't believe in ghosts. And the Dutchman heads to Squidward’s house and scares him successfully. And this scene is utterly horrifying!

(go to the 4:20 mark)

And because of this, the Flying Dutchman finally has the nerve to scare people again. And then he leaves, giving Spongebob a scary surprise!

SB-129 was an excellent/pretty dark episode. Ghost Host was an overall decent episode and if it has The Flying Dutchmen, then the episode is dark :P

Haha, that's how I always describe Ghost Host. :P

SB-129 is so much darker than people give it credit for, which is partly why I love it. That and the fact that I adore time travel. And, you know, it's just a good episode in general. Funny, well-written, cool story, all that crap.

Oddly enough, I never thought of Ghost Host as dark. I guess it's because I found the Dutchman's tricks more gross than scary/creepy. But yeah, I can see why you'd consider it dark.

Next is Squidward in Clarinetland, I'm guessing. I love that episode. It's so trippy. :D

I love SB-129 a lot. It's one of my favorite episodes.
Ghost Host is not bad as people says actually. I actually enjoyed watching this one. Sorry MMM but I didn't think SpongeBob went downhill after this episode.

Yeah, I actually like Ghost Host as well. I find it to be really underrated. I liked the story and I loved the frightening and dark visuals. The scariest/best part would have to be either the Flying Dutchman pulling pranks on Spongebob or the Flying Dutchman scaring Squidward. I felt bad for Squiddy, but I thought that scene was pretty darn awesome and halloween-ish! Thinking back to the Fly of Despair, eh? And I think Spongebob started to go downhill sometime around Season 6 or so. But it did start to get a wee bit better when Legends of Bikini Bottom showed up. ^_^

And now I know what to decorate with!

LOBB episodes were disappointing in my opinion. The only great ones in my opinion are Welcome to Bikini Bottom Triangle and The Curse of The Hex. IMO, SpongeBob improved after season 8.
