Do you consider Season 4 to be old or new SpongeBob

Original Raw and Uncut

Two-Headed Starfish
I would consider S4 to be neutral, why since during this era the show was at a perplexing transitional phase, juts like most shows in their forth season, It has a mix of pre-movie and post-movie traits, especially the earlier half, but early-S4 episodes are completely different than season 3, but late-S4 and early-S5 get mixed up since they overlap. In S4 SpongeBob is a mix of his pre and post movie self. Even the tone is a blend of old and new, especially APM music, first half of season 4 especially had a a lot of older APM tracks, then starting around episodes in halfway through the season had many tracks you hear today, even the animation is a blend of old and new, although the outlines became more crisp in this season, it still has the organic squash and stretch appeal from pre-movie, although it slowly fades as the season progresses. Even the sound effects are a blend of old and new, like hearing bubble sounds in the background whenever someone moves, this season had the most aquatic appeal, next to season 1. Plus this season really isn't so new anymore, since it came out 11 years ago. For now I call it a draw, Season 4 is neither old or new, it is a neutral season.

I'd say the first half is old, and the second half is new. I even thought that episodes like Squidtastic Voyage, The Thing or Squid Wood were in season 5, while I thought that episodes like Fear of a Krabby Patty or Have You Seen this Snail or Krusty Towers were pre-movie. It's a big blend of both.

Whew, you have me confused. But, I'd say, like Torts said, half and half. First half, we got episodes like "Fear of a Krabby Patty", "Wishing You Well", and "Skill Crane" that have a big pre-movie vibe, in terms of animation, music choices, and character personalities. Second half, we have episodes like "Squid Wood", "Hocus Pocus", and "Wigstruck", which look like Season 5 episodes at first glance (Even though I noticed some first half S4-ish animation in "Hocus Pocus".).

I'll go with the latter, even though it has a few elements of both. Of course it came after the movie and represented a few changes in the show and its' staff, so there.

However, like OP (anyone use this term on SBM? :P) said, yeah, it was a strange puberty stage of our favorite sponge's TV program. Plus like some people said, it's been around for a while, but I'll go with whatever it really is for that.

For love of God, why people say second half of season 4 is new, while it was 8-9 years ago? Is it because second half of season 4 wasn't good? For crying out loud, "quality = / = age" people. Soon season 6 and season 7 will be old, will you still consider it to be new SpongeBob. Heck, even It was like a decade when I watched season 6 on TV. New SpongeBob is the SpongeBob episodes that we are getting recently (1-3 years), every episode in season 4 are old, If you like season 4 or not.

If that makes some things clear, I meant that the second half feels newer compared to the first one. I thought you knew that I don't like when people say that seasons 4-8 are the present when they ended years ago. That's soooooooooo stupid and shows that some people hate just to hate.

Season 6-7 are already old, especially S6 since it came out eight years ago, and eight years before that was S1, pretty sure S1 was classified as old in 2008, hec it was probably classified as old during S2-S3 era, so S6 is now as old as S1 was when it came out, now I'm scared of how fast time is going by.

I wasn't refering to you actually. I meant fans who still believe season 4 is a part of new SpongeBob, which is not even new anymore.

It's old, the season started almost 10 years ago. It just isn't one of the best old seasons. Same goes with 5, season 6 is getting there.

I would call it old throughout the entire season, as most of the episodes are 9-10 years old. By that logic, I even count S6 as old, as most of its episodes aired around 7-6 years ago. And yes, Age does not equal better, and I get sick of people calling "new Spongebob" anything from S4-S9, even when S4 was from 9-10 years ago. I count the "new" episodes as anything that aired from 4 years ago to today.

I would definitely say old, it's over 10 years old now and even watching Season 4 feels like watching a really old episode now

I just consider it Post-Movie. It's a bit transitional, maybe, but I'm completely fine with categorizing it that way simply to make it easier to remember, given the drastic change in both style and production values. It's really only a crime if there's a vindication of quality.

And of course there's the fact that it ended a decade ago, which relatively speaking would make you crazy if you still think it's new.

It's still part of "post movie era" but it's considered old. Yet some still think season 4 is the start of the decline. Honestly, I liked both the first and second half of season 4 equally.

It is very down the middle. I personally like season 4, but after the second half of the season, the decline began, as there were less good episodes in the 2nd half of the season than the 1st. I love some of the episodes in S4, and I don't hate the "bad" episodes a lot. My least favorite episode, Good Neighbors is between meh and typically bad. I don't like the episode, but I don't outright hate it. I'd say it feels both old and new

It is the first season of the second run of the show and even though it's a good season that still had a lot of that classic Spongebob charm, its hard to pair it with the prior seasons and not notice the sudden and abrupt change in animation, voices, writers, and character personalities. So even though the season isn't technically "new", in fact it's pretty old now, its still part of what most consider the "new" era.
