Like many video game mascots, he was only meant to be made for the era. Unfortunately, Sega couldn't live without him. Whether or not the Sonic Adventure era existed, the Dreamcast would've been a failure, as the general public knew that Sonic was a product of the early-mid 1990s, no matter how many guns, swords and enerbeams they give him.
