Narrator: Welcome to Encino, California, where it's time for another Patchy the Pirate special!
Kids: YAAAAYYYYY!!!!

We cut to Patchy's home. He's sound asleep on the couch.

Narrator and Kids: Patchy, wake up!
Patchy: (wakes up) Potty made me do it! Oh, uh, hi kids!
Kids: Hi, Patchy!
Patchy: I'm Patchy the Pirate, president of the SpongeBob SquarePants Fan Club! Today's episode is special because...

Then he was interrupted a lowd sqwack from Potty.

Patchy: Huh?

He looked over at Potty, who was carrying a chainsaw and it was running and smoking.

Potty: RAWK!!!

He went for Patchy, but missed.

Patchy: Ah, Potty! What in barnacles are ye doing?!
Potty: (going for Patchy again) Rawk, you owe me two cents, freeloader!
Patchy: (grabs Potty by the puppet strings dragging puppeter with him) Come here, you.
Puppeter: Whoa, whoa!

He threw Potty and the puppeter out the door and slammed it shut.

Patchy: Arr, sometimes that Potty just drives me off the plank of the crazy ship! (sighs) But you know, even though Potty can be a real blowhard sometimes, I still remember the day we first met.

-FLASHBACK-
A baby Patchy was sitting on the couch eating ice cream (Pistachio, if you must know ;()

Potty: (grabs ice cream) Rawk, ice cream!
Baby Patchy: (crying) Mommy!!!!
-END FLASHBACK-

Patchy: (sighs) Yeah. Oh! That reminds me! Speaking of best friends, today's SpongeBob special shwos how SpongeBob and Patrick first met! Oh, I'm so giddy, I can't wait! Roll the cartoon!

The Thunderstorm

A bubble transition immediately brings us to a thunderstorm.

Narrator: Uh, oh. It appears there's a thunderstorm in Bikini Bottom! TV will go out for miles!

A thunderbolt hit Patrick's house. The sattilite attena on Patrick's house immediately broke off.

We cut inside to see Patrick watching TV.

Patrick: Ha ha! That guy got hit in the head with a coconut!

Then it went to static.

Patrick: Hey, I'm missing the coconut! What's wrong with the reception?!

He put on his raincoat and went outside. A package was sitting on top of his rock.

Patrick: What's this? (checks tag) Hey, it's from the Best Friends Forever Club!*

He started running towards SpongeBob's house.

Patrick: SpongeBob! SpongeBob!

SpongeBob was inside, watching TV. Patrick busted in with the package.

Patrick: SpongeBob, we got a package from the BFF Club!
SpongeBob: (turns off TV) Ooh, let's see it!

They opened up the package. Patrick took out three BFF Rings. They were shiny and made of platinum gold.

Patrick: New friendship rings!

He pressed the button. Two more-realistic figurines of SpongeBob, Patrick, and Stevie popped out and circled the ring.

SBPNN Figurines: ♪It's the Best Friends Forever, Best Friends Forever, Best Friends Forever, RING!♪

They put them on their fingers. Patrick pulled out a booklet.

Patrick: And the monthly Best Friends Forever Club newsletter! Let's read the "This Month's Hottest BFF Club Underwear Themes" column!
SpongeBob: (has the booklet open) Already there! (reading) "As of this month, January 2018, and this new year, last month's Goo Lagoon boxers are out and this month, the theme is Soakymon briefs!"

SpongeBob and Patrick immediately ripped out their Goo Lagoon-themed boxers and stuffed in their pants the new Soakymon-themed briefs that came in the pakcage.

SpongeBob: And last but not least...

He pulled out a notice and read it.

To celebrate the new year, the BFF Club is holding their 9th Annual Best Buddies Essay Contest!

This year, the theme is "How You and Your Buddy(s) First Met".

Write a 500 word or more essay on this topic and bring it to the BFF Club Convention at the BFF Club Headquarters* on February 5, 2018! Winners will be announced on April 22nd!

And that's when a flashback started.

Welcome to Sunshine Bottom

-FLASHBACK-

It was September 2005. We cut to a sign saying "Sunshine Bottom - Population: 1,600".

We zoom through the happy town as SpongeBob and Patrick narrate.

SpongeBob narrator: I remember Sunshine Bottom as if we had only moved away yesterday!
Patrick narrator: Oh yeah, me too! All those small buildings, the happy children. Paradise!
SpongeBob narrator: Looking back, I guess our story begins on September 2, 2005, the day before Patrick and I both went to kindergarten.
Patrick narrator: Huh?

We pan over to a small green building. Patrick and his dad from I'm With Stupid carrying in kindergarten supplies. Patrick was about as tall as Stevie is now. He had two buck teeth, rosy red cheeks, and a beanie cap on.

He spoke with a high sqeauky voice and mispronounced "p" as "q" as he spoke.*

Young Patrick: (tugging on dad's shirt) Uh, daddy?
Patrick's dad: (turning around) Yes, son?
Young Patrick: What if no one likes me? Dey didn't like me in qweschool!
Patrick's dad: Well, son, that's because you kept eating everyone's toys!
Young Patrick: I couldn't helqe it! Dey always looked so colorful and chewy! (smacks lips)
Patrick's dad: Well, son, if you just try not to eat everyone's toys, then you just might make a new friend. Hopefully one that knows a bit of "kay-rah-tae".
Young Patrick: (smiling) Okay, daddy!

They walked in the house and sat down as Patrick's mom from I'm With Stupid was cooking dinner.

Patrick narrator: My parents were kinda picky about my friends. Mom always wanted me to have a friend who was playful, so I could enjoy the years I had left as a kid, while Dad wanted me to have a friend who was tough and focused, so he could teach me to be a true man! My dad was always too busy to do it himself.
SpongeBob narrator: Yeah, yeah, enough about your problems. Let's start focusing in on me!

We cut to a coconut house. SpongeBob, young Gary, and his parents were eating at the dining room. SpongeBob was slightly shorter then young Patrick, and he had overalls, rosy red cheeks, and clown shoes.

Gary looked the same as today, only smaller, cuter, and with a cute higher voice. The pattern on his shell was blue, instead of purple like it was for the first eight seasons of the show.

Gary: Meow.
Young SpongeBob: (petting Gary) Aw, Gawwy. You awweady had dinneh, buddy.
Gary: (sadly) Meow.
SpongeBob's mom: Don't forget to double-check your school supplies, honey.
Young SpongeBob: Okay, Mommy, don't wowwy. I wheel.
SpongeBob's dad: That's my boy.
Patrick narrator: Wow, Gary looked cute back then.
SpongeBob narrator: Yeah, I suppose he was. Anyway, I like my parents. They're proud of me, and have faith in me no matter what.
Patrick narrator: Wow. I wish I had your parents.
SpongeBob narrator: Yeah, they're pretty cool.

-END FLASHBACK-

SpongeBob narrator: The next morning, it was time for me to go to school.

SpongeBob walked out of the coconut house. SpongeBob's parents stood at the doorway.

Young SpongeBob: I'm weady!
SpongeBob's mom: Have a good day at school, son!
SpongeBob's dad: Yeah, and tell us if you make any new friends.
Young SpongeBob: Wove you!

They leaned down and he gave them each a kiss on the cheek before running down the driveway with his backpack and lunchbox.

SpongeBob's dad: Wove you too, son!
Young SpongeBob: (calling) Bye, Gawwy!
Young Gary: Meow!

*bubble transition*

Patrick narrator: Well, glad to hear things went smoothly for you. As for me...

We cut to Patrick's house, where his mom is setting us his backpac for him.

Young Patrick: Mommy, I can do it myself!
Patrick's mom: (laughs) Of course you can, son. (hands him lunchbox and apple) Here's your lunch and an apple for the teacher.

Patrick ate the apple, spit out the core, and let out a loud belch.

Patrick's mom: Well, there's your lunch, anyway.
Young Patrick: (grabs lunchbox) Fanks, mommy. Bye!
Patrick's mom: (calling out) Don't forget to find a friend with lots of stuff for you to play with!
Patrick's dad: And make sure he knows a little bit of kay-rah-tae!
Patrick's mom: (as they're walking in, chuckling) Oh, Horace.

SpongeBob narrator: Why'd you eat the apple? You were supposed to give it to Miss Shell!
Patrick narrator: Well, I was hungry. I didn't have enough time to eat breakfast!
SpongeBob narrator: Well, anyways...
