Any s2-s3 episode that seem to have a distinctive animation style?

I think it's safe to say that seasons 2 and 3 are sort of average in animation style. It's not necessarily a bad thing, but it's usually tough to distinguish a s2 episode from an s3 one.

So my question is do you have any episodes that have always had a different-ish animation style for you? I've noticed that episodes like Dying for Pie and Welcome to the Chum Bucket are good examples.

Immediately thought of Dying for Pie.

I think WTTCB had a different animation because it was mainly at night. Or maybe that's just me :P Same could be said for Shanghaeid & the Secret Box but I love the nighttime animation style that they present.

There were some episodes in that season that looked more pale than others and it's pretty easy for me to tell apart a Season 2 ep from a Season 3 ep mainly because of SpongeBob's design and coloring.

SpongeBob's expressions in "Dying For Pie" scream C.H. Greenblatt.

I also think SpongeBob looks a little different in "Nasty Patty", in a good way. He looks cuter, like his body is smaller and his eyes are bigger, though I don't know if I'm just imagining it. It could just be something to do with the overall dark palette of that episode.

I actually think S2 and S3 are fairly distinct from each other. In S2 the designs are a little softer and I prefer the look of it to S3.

The facial expressions in Shanghaied have always seemed a little goofier than normal to me. Here's one of the screencaps that I found so far to demonstrate:

And in a few other cases, such as the face that SpongeBob makes when he finds out that Patrick spent their wish on gum in Patrick's alternate ending.

To me, Party Pooper Pants has always sort of looked like a Season 4 episode. The problem of SpongeBob being pale is mostly fixed in Season 3.

I feel like in Season 2 they used softer colors and SpongeBob looked a little less like a square, while in Season 3 the characters have sharper angles, the lighting is a little better, and SpongeBob looks more like a Square. The Algae's Always Greener is an exception: to me it looks like a Season 2 episode, apart from the more yellow-y coloring.

For a while I thought Big Pink Loser was a s1 ep because they used his season 1 eyebrows. Now, I can differentiate between cel and computer animation very well so I wouldn't have questioned it if I noticed it just recently, but I wonder why he has s1 eyebrows in mid s2.

I thought they were experiencing.

I guess I was the only one who thought Seasons 1 and 3 had the best animation; season 2 was kinda weird.. SpongeBob's palette seemed to be really dull and unsaturated. I haven't seen season 2 in a while though. :P

I am kinda curious though; what happened between the final season 3 episode and Fear of a Krabby Patty? Everyone looks kinda squished down in FOAKP.

The backgrounds in Squid's Day Off (and early Season 2 in general) seem like slightly more professional versions of Help Wanted's. I remember reading somewhere that the first 4 or 5 Season 2 episodes were cel-animated with a little more touching up than Season 1.

In Fear Of A Krabby Patty and Dying For Pie, C.H Greenblatt's style shows through a little more than most of the other episodes he's worked on.
