I call it Treasure Huntin'

Spongebob got home after work to find that Patrick was waiting for him in the kitchen. "I'm so glad you're back!" Patrick said excitedly. "Today we are going on an adventure! I found some treasure maps under your bed."

"Patrick," SpongeBob replied. "We can't go on adventures all the time. I have work tomorrow."

"But this one is really special!" Patrick exclaimed. "It says it leads us to a treasure chest full of gold coins."

"And what if it doesn't?" Spongebob asked.

"Then we'll just look for another one," Patrick replied.

"What about my work?" Spongebob asked.

"We could always come back here and get it later," Patrick suggested.

"No," Spongebob said. "I love my job."

"So then let's do it tonight!" Patrick exclaimed.

"Alright, but don't forget to brush your teeth before bedtime," Spongebob told him.

"Okay, thanks, Spongebob," Patrick replied. "See ya later."

Later...

Spongebob and Patrick ran into the Pineapple's bedroom and grabbed the first map from under his bed. It read:
Treasure Map To The Lost Treasure Of Atlantis
   Follow The Deep Blue Sea
Find The Secret Key In The Coral Reef
   The Ship That Never Was
   A Pirate's Life For Me!
   Kraken-Shaped Island
   All Hands On Deck!
   Ride The Tide
   To The Rescue!
   Sea Shells And Pearls
   Shipwrecked At Last
   End Of The Line
   My Treasure Is You
   To Be Continued…

"Oh, boy," SpongeBob said. "This looks like fun!"

He opened the second map and read it aloud:
Treasure Map To The Lost Treasure Of Poseidon
   Follow The Deep Blue Sea
Find The Secret Key In a Clam
   Ride The Tide
   To The Rescue!
   Sea Shells And Pearls
   Shipwrecked At Last
   End Of The Line
   My Treasure Is You
   To Be Continued…

"Wow!" SpongeBob said. "These maps are amazing!"

"Yeah," Patrick agreed. "Let's go!"

"Alright," SpongeBob said. "Lead the way."

They headed out the door. As they walked down the street, SpongeBob noticed something unusual. There were no boats parked along the curb.

"Where are all the boats?" SpongeBob asked.

"You mean you haven't noticed?" Patrick replied. "Everyone in Bikini Bottom is on vacation."

"Vacation?" SpongeBob said. "What kind of vacation? Where are they going?"

"To a place called 'Fun Land,'" Patrick answered. "It's a theme park where everyone goes during their summer break."

"Why would anyone want to go there?" SpongeBob asked. "It sounds awful! Glove World is much better."

"Well, I guess it isn't the best place," Patrick admitted. "But it's fun to visit every once in a while."

SpongeBob sighed. "I wish I could go on vacation too," he said.

"Me too," Patrick agreed. "But I don't know how to drive a boatmobile."

"That's okay," SpongeBob assured him. "If we follow these maps, we should be able to get there without any problems."

They continued walking until they reached a beach. "Hey, look," Patrick pointed. "There's a shipwreck!"

"Cool," SpongeBob replied. "Let's take a closer look."

"Careful," Patrick warned. "Don't touch anything."

"Why not?" SpongeBob asked. "It's a wreck."

"It might still be dangerous," Patrick explained. "It's probably filled with all kinds of nasty things."

"Nasty things?" SpongeBob asked. "Like what?"

"Well, you never know," Patrick replied. "I've heard stories about people getting lost at sea and being attacked by the Ghost Pirate."
"Ghost Pirate?" SpongeBob repeated. "Is that true?"

"Yes," Patrick said. "And I don't think you want to find out what happens next."

"No," SpongeBob replied. "I definitely don't want to find out."

They moved away from the shipwreck and kept walking. Soon they came across a coral reef. "Ooh," SpongeBob exclaimed. "Look at all those pretty shells!"

"Maybe we can find some pearls in there," Patrick suggested.

"Pearls?" SpongeBob replied. "Do you know how many times I've tried to find a pearl and failed miserably?"

"Yeah," Patrick said. "But maybe this time will be different."

"Well, I hope so," SpongeBob said. "Because I really need a new pair of shoes."

"I'm sure we'll find something," Patrick reassured him.

"I hope so," SpongeBob said.

They continued exploring the reef. They saw a strange-looking creature. "Hey, what's that?" SpongeBob asked.

"It looks like a jellyfish," Patrick replied. "Or a ghost pirate."

"I wonder what it does," SpongeBob said. "I bet it has some kind of super power."

"Super powers?" Patrick asked. "Like what?"

"I don't know," SpongeBob replied. "But I bet it's pretty cool."

"What do you think its name is?" Patrick wondered.

"How should I know?" SpongeBob replied. "We can ask it when we catch it."

"Okay," Patrick said. "But don't touch it. I hear it's very dangerous."

"Dangerous," SpongeBob repeated. "Yikes!"

They walked past the jellyfish. Then they spotted a ghost pirate. "Wow!" SpongeBob exclaimed. "He looks scary!"

"He certainly does," Patrick agreed.

SpongeBob started running toward the ghost pirate. But just as he was about to reach him, the ghost pirate disappeared.

"Wait!" SpongeBob cried. "Where did he go?"

"Who knows?" Patrick replied. "He must have run away."

SpongeBob sighed. "Well, at least we caught his hat," he said.

"Hat?" Patrick repeated. "What hat?"

"I'm sorry," SpongeBob apologized. "I was thinking of someone else."

"Someone else?" Patrick asked.

"Never mind," SpongeBob replied. "Let's keep looking for pearls."

They continued exploring the coral reef. After a while, they found a treasure chest. "Look!" SpongeBob exclaimed. "There's a key inside!"

"That's great," Patrick replied. "Now we can open it and see what's inside."

"Great idea," Spongebob agreed. "Come on, let's go get it."

They grabbed the key and headed toward the chest. Just as they were about to grab the key, the ghost pirate appears!

"Surprise!" the ghost pirate shouted.

"I knew it," Spongebob gasped. "He was here all along!"

The ghost pirate grabbed the key and took off. "Ha ha!" he laughed. "You're too late! This is mine now!"

"But we were just about to get the key," Spongebob protested.

"Too bad," the ghost pirate replied. "It's mine now."

"But you're a ghost pirate!" Spongebob cried. "How can you have a ghost pirate's treasure?"

"You're right," the ghost pirate replied. "I am a ghost pirate. But I'm also an octopus."

"An octopus?" Spongebob asked.

"Yep," the ghost pirate replied. "And I've been searching for this treasure for years. It's the only thing that matters to me."

"What's wrong with you?" Spongebob asked. "It's just a treasure chest."

"Just a treasure chest?" the ghost pirate replied. "I know it's not much, but it means everything to me."

"But why?" Spongebob asked.

"I don't know," the ghost pirate replied. "I guess I just love chests."

"I see," Spongebob said. "Well, thank you for letting us take the key."

"You're welcome," the ghost pirate replied. "Good luck finding your own treasure."

"Thank you," Spongebob said. "We'll try our best."

The ghost pirate vanished, leaving behind his hat and a map.

"Hey, look," Patrick said. "There's another shipwreck over there."

"Wow," SpongeBob said. "Another one? Let's check it out."

They walked toward the shipwreck. When they got close, they realized there was a giant squid in the water. "Hey, look at that!" SpongeBob exclaimed. "It's a giant squid!"

"Giant squid?" Patrick repeated. "Is that even a real animal?"

"Sure it is," Spongebob replied. "It's a sea monster."

"Sea monster?" Patrick repeated. "Like a mermaid or a sea witch?"

"Not exactly," Spongebob replied. "But it's a sea monster just the same."

"I've never seen one before," Patrick remarked. "Are they dangerous?"

"Oh yeah," Spongebob replied. "They're very dangerous."

"Why?" Patrick asked.

"Well, they're huge and strong," Spongebob explained. "They can lift up ships with their tentacles."

Suddenly, the squid saw Spongebob and grabbed him.

"AHHHHHHH!" Spongebob screamed.

The squid turned around and looked at Spongebob. "Hello, little boy," the squid said. "I'm a friendly giant squid. What's your name?"

"My name is SpongeBob SquarePants," Spongebob replied. "I live in a pineapple under the sea.
"
"Nice to meet you, SpongeBob," the squid said. "And who's that?"

"This is my friend," Spongebob replied. "His name is Patrick. He lives in a rock under the sea."

"Friend?" the squid asked. "What's a friend?"

"A friend is someone who helps you when you're in trouble," Spongebob explained. "You never heard of a friend before?"

"No," the squid replied. "But I'd like to learn more about them."

"I can teach you," Spongebob promised. "I'm a teacher. I know everything there is to know about friends."

"Really?" the squid asked. "Then please tell me about friends."

"All right," Spongebob replied. "Friends are kind and helpful. They always help each other out. And they share their food with each other."

After 5 minutes of Spongebob explaining what a friend is, the squid nodded his head. "I think I understand now," he said. "I've never had a friend before, but if I did, I think I would want to be a friend like that."

"I can be your friend!" Spongebob replied.

"Wow really!" the squid said.

"Yep" Spongebob said. "Anyways, I think I'll go home now,"

"Goodbye! the squid replied.

"Bye!" Spongebob replied.

As soon as the squid left, Spongebob went back to Patrick. "Did you see that?" he asked. "It was a giant squid!"

"Yeah," Patrick replied. "It was pretty cool."

"I know," Spongebob replied. "I can't wait to tell everyone about it."

"I bet you can't," Patrick replied. "Because no one cares about giant squids."

"I know," Spongebob replied. "That's why I'll write about it in my book."
